This has been a pretty exciting deadline. As per usual, I wonder how the deadline shows on Friday are going to pass the time...

With McGinn & Friedman being placed on waivers, the Penguins continue their attempts to clear out cap space.

Penguins continue to clear cap by waiving McGinn ($2.75m, 2 more yrs) and Friedman ($775k, 1 more yr). (whoops didn't see pmorrow's tweet)

McGinn signed a 4y, $11m deal in July 2021. He has 37pts in 123gp with the Penguins.

If both clear, they gain $775,000+$1,125,000 = $1,900,000 in space.

McGinn will still have $1,625,000 against the cap if unclaimed.

So my guess is they're hoping someone takes a bite at McGinn for the full $2,750,000 to get off their books, and they'll end up with $3,525,000 in space.

God this is going to feed in to Leafs fans, but feel like we need a separate thread to summarize/discuss all of Toronto's moves.

IN: O'Reilly, Acciari, McCabe, Lafferty, Gustafsson, Schenn

OUT: Sandin, Engvall, Simmonds (to minors).

Seems like turning over 25% of the 4th best team in the league's roster might be oversteering a bit?

The way the chips are falling, I am not sure Arizona trades Chychrun by Friday. This could run into the off-season, again. They don't seem willing to want to play the game and appear to be holding court on their price. It's good that they are sticking to it, but in the end, are they really doing anyone any favors, including themselves? Chychrun doesn't want to be there.

The fact we heard every other trade leaked out slowly vs the Leafs pulling off 3 trades, B2B2B, with very little leakage is just so Leafs right now. It's also kinda funny how the trade that took the longest to release was the Engvall to NYI.
