I dunno if it was such a favorable matchup. LA is one of those teams that can play a shutdown type of game or just break out if need be. I didn't watch last night's game, but the Flames as a whole have been playing well lately but have had some bad luck. Markstrom looks like he will have a dismal week. Sutter has to play him though, do or die with your best. Feel sorry for Markstrom owners for sure, tough start.

At least he put up the HORRIBLE game early in the week, and you can just punt the GAA/S% cats lol.

In 1yr leagues I'd be exploring the possibility of just not winning the goalie cats and running 0Goalies from now on. Bold though. Alternatively you can just go for volume on saves and wins now though.

He's now sub 89%. That's awful. Barring major changes in the offseason it might be time for people holding to cut loose. Not saying he'll be as awful next year, but as a keeper I'm not sure it's worth the risk.

If Sutter isn't back with the team, Markstrom will likely be a really good "0 goalie strategy" goalie to target. The teams good, Markstrom is good, this is just an anomaly yr that spiraled out of control early and they've been clawing to win games ever since.

Totally agree with this - Markstrom drafted as a middle of the pack G could win leagues.

The Flames just have to bounce back, the Pacific is there for the taking, and they needed this year to gel. With the right new bench boss, and that terrific mix of vets esp on the blue line, they can be a force.

Markstrom is and always has been an average to below average ability goalie. Goalies are most often products of the system. Flames system is broken. This is a team giving Milan Lucic 12 mins a night and has a coach who thinks it’s cool to belittle people. It ain’t 1992 any more. Until Sutter is gone I’m not going anywhere near Markstrom.

Also, just for actual data, here are the career similarity scores (with comparison percentage). Not exactly a who’s who of winning NHL goalies. All these guys have been decent for stretches but never really won anything. Markstrom is also a head case.

i believe goal on first shot happened 7 times this year...(im close if not right on) so definitely double digits for first 5.

How much of a head case do you have to be to cough up a goal on the first shot 8 frickin times in one season? If you had a goalie that just spots the other team a goal 15% of the time you would probably look for another goalie.

Edit: it's probably way more that 15%, because that's just on the first shot, it's probably closer to 50% on the first 5 shots
