Makar - Head Injury

Makar sustained a head injury after Carter high sticked him, he will miss the rest of the road trip they are currently on. Their upcoming games:

Thursday @ TBL
Saturday @ Florida
Tuesday vs TBL
Wednesday @ Minny
Saturday @ STL
Sunday vs Edmonton
Friday @ WPG
Saturday vs CGY
Monday vs VGK

The schedule would suggest they could have him out till the 24/25th IF there's worry about travel. He get 15-16 days off, misses 6 games and 2 B2Bs.

But he also could miss just 2 games, and get 6 days off and be back vs Tampa on the 14th.

For clarity, wasn't a high-stick from Carter.
There was no stick involved.

It'll be highly/hotly debatable... but there was a wrap-around by Kasperi Kaspanen the other night, that bounced around as Carter was trying to get to the net (with MacKinnon trying to guard him off).
As Carter was arriving, Makar batted it out of the area... Carter changed directions, raising his body up to turn away from net (where Makar batted puck) at same time as Makar's batt-swat motion shifted his head into Carter's path.

For me, 100% accidental and bad luck.
Just playing minor/men's league hockey, I've been in this situation (both sides 4-5 times) and seen it 20+ times.
It always looks bad. It's almost always accidental and hard to avoid.

How one interprets it, IMO, says a lot about how much hockey they've played and how well they *think* a player can control their body in a miniscule moment in time.

Lots of replay angles on internet, but a photo - for me - shows that Carter couldn't have possibly been targeting Makar from afar.

Event 1 - Carter angling to net, tryingn to get around MacKinnon and his foot, edging to one blade. Kapanen wrap-around bounces into air, Makar swats at it.
Event 2 - Fractions of second after Makar batts it to corner, Carter tries to steer himself also to corner (see video snips)... and at that time Makar's follow-through has put his head in that path.

I feel bad for both guys, mostly Makar - but man... the internet is great place to point fingers and accuse a guy of wanting to injure a fellow-player.

my bad, I just saw screenshots and assumed it was a high stick. I have him in a league and figured if I didn't watch it, it did and did not happen lol.

Anyone think he rests until NHL playoffs? 2 concussions so close together is highly concerning. I saw he skated yesterday but I'm not sure that's entirely indicative of his recovery.

My trade deadline is Wednesday and I'm debating trying to offload Makar to someone else if I can.

Colorado needs to win still for securing the playoff spot. They're in a spot now, but they aren't a lock by any means. If he's healthy I think he plays, it's just when he'll be fine is another story. I think if he's out 2 weeks, he'll be held out a 3rd week to be safe if that makes sense.

Makar first game out was the 19th, he's not playing 24th or 25th. It really depends on his health, but if he's out 2 games already, I don't think he plays vs Vegas on the 27th. So the earliest for me would be NJD on the 1st, but they could also hold him out till the 5th and he'd only miss 5 games and he'd get 14 days off.

Good point about their position in the standings. Really hard to predict timetables for concussions but I'll probably just hold and pray he's back by March 13th.

With Colorado on a hot streak lately and more comfortably in a playoff spot I can see them waiting on Makar so hes 100% and getting a practice or two in. 2 concussions (even if relatively minor) in such a short span is no joke, they have years of health to worry about so i anticipate he'll be week to week since teams dont really practice that often.

if he comes back too soon just to get hit in the head again and is out for the season then their season is probably over

when it comes to concussion i dont think they have much of a choice but wait till he is 100% i think he needs to be cleared by medical and i doubt he would be if it wasnt safe for him to play...i dont think in this case it matters at all if they in playoff spot or not....however since they are, maybe they give him extra time after he is cleared...
