I think it would be a quick jerk reaction for the senators to acquire Chychrun before the summer. I understand the idea that if they want him, you better do it before someone else. But I also don't think the extra payment for this yr is worth it for the Senators.

Ottawa is not making it this yr, and if they wait till the summer, they have a definite number on their draft pick which would make a trade more clear.

If I'm not using Chychrun in the playoffs this yr, I'm not touching him.

They have like a 6-18% chance to make the playoffs depending where you look.

Hockey reference has them at 6.3%.

They have 51pts in 50games, I think the target is about 92pts is the playoff target. Meaning they need 42pts in 31games (21-10). However, it could be 96pts this yr, so 45pts (22-8-1). They have Florida, NYI, Buffalo and Pitts or Wash to leap to get into the playoffs.

Road is tough. Philly is tied in pts with 1 more game played to put their situation into perspective.

We thought he was going to be moved like 2 offseason's now.

I think Ottawa can get someone with those assets in the offseason. I don't think Chychrun should be on their checklist to the level of playoff teams this yr. I'd assume Ottawa would move a protected 1st, which would then move to next yr if it's high this yr. And they got lucky once in that situation, do they do that again without knowing their draft position?
