    Default Brannstrom or Blankenburg

    Hi all,
Is it time to accept that Brannstrom is a bust? He had such potential and was highly touted, but has done next to nothing in Ottawa. I was thinking of dumping him and picking up Blankenburg who looks more promising (at least of late). I recognize that they are both fringe, but in a cap league a guy at 825k who can chip in at about 0.5 points per game has some value over a player who contributes next to nothing (especially when up against the cap). My fear is not for this season, but does anyone see anything in Brannstrom that he should be kept? Unfortunately he can't be put on my farm using our rules.

I been huge supporter of Brannstrom but its been a struggle...he has been very disappointingnot sure if tis going to turn around or not. I dont think Blankenburg has same talent of ceiling but his floor appears to be much safer...depending on your team's situation i dont really mind the switch at this point, but its still possible you will regret it down the road...

Well as a Brannstrom owner I too would like to hear what folks have to say. Personally, I will see what happens ROS with him, but I'll likely drop him next summer unless he shows some spark or perhaps gets traded and gets a fresh start somewhere else. He's still only 23 so I wouldn't label him a complete bust just yet, however, I am not at all optimistic. I don't have a clue what has happened with him, but the results are disappointing to say the least.

Brannstrom could use a change of scenery and a trade could really benefit him.

He has loads of talent and has shown it at every level, just hasn’t clicked in the NHL yet. I think the best thing for him and his fantasy owners is a trade out of Ottawa.

For what it’s worth, I floated an offer of a late 2nd round pick in the prospect draft for Brannstrom and the Brannstrom owner rejected it.

Personally I don’t know how much brannstrom has to offer at this point. I wouldn’t be giving up assets for him. If he became available as an FA pickup I might consider a stash but even then I really don’t see him becoming the stud offensive defenseman we all thought he was going to become. Blankenburg definitely lacks the high ceiling Brannstrom had, but he is showing a pretty safe 25-30 point floor with upside for more if he gets the minutes. Either way at this point neither are game-breakers. But I’d take Blankenburg at this point. I think brannstrom will become a fringe AHL/NHL player maybe he sticks as a 3rd poring guy but those numbers this year are abysmal.
