It's been a tough go with this guy but watching him play, he just doesn't seem like he has it. In my standard points league he's average 3.37 fan points per game while Kevin Hayes is at 4.24.

Is it worth dumping him or would you hang on to him?

The comparison to Hayes is a bit iffy as he's having a fantastic year. Kuznetsov does seems like the type of player that can turn it on or off at anytime so he's definitely a frustrating own (I also own him in a league).

Depending on your format, I surely wouldn't simply dump him and would look to at least work out a trade if possible.

I agree with the above statement. I wouldn't be dropping Kuznetsov and especially for Kevin Hayes. If you would do that, you will be kicking yourself in a few weeks.

i doubt he will do enough to convince you otherwise in a week....but i agree with others that changing Kuzzy for Hayes is desperation move that will backfire

This is always the dilemma in fantasy hockey.
You never want to sell low or drop a player if they might have value to you or in a trade.
And if they do get it going you may suddenly not want to trade them any more aka sell them when they should get fair or 'sell high' value. So you gotta ask, if he had a good week (say 6 pts in 4 games) would you still look trade him, thinking he might regress again? If the answer is yes then you should trade him. If the answer to the hypothetical is no, because that production would restore your faith in him, then you should hang on and wait for the production to come.

Also a Kuzy owner. R. Thomas is sitting out on the wire and I'm considering making the swap.

Is it really desperation though? Hayes is averaging a fantasy point more per game. That’s quite a lot. He’s also very engaged on the ice and on PP1. I’m watching Kuzie and he’s not bringing it 100%. Some games he does and he’s fantastic but it’s not every game. That’s what it looks like to me anyway.
