Im not surprised that Hernandez got traded. I felt it was either him going or Gurriel and Gurriel still has longer control if I am not mistaken so that made Hernandez the more expendable of the two. It also frees up a fair bit of salary to go find help in the FA market. I am more surprised that their first trade wasn't one of the catchers going out. That's a deal still waiting to happen. Hopefully that trade nets them a power left-handed batter or another quality starter.

If Jays can get a starter for a catcher, and sign a LHB to replace Teo (Nimmo) or sign Judge and be a total meme (totally not going to happen though) then the move was the right move.

A few months ago, I had heard rumblings about Judge signing with the Red Sox. Is that something that is still a possibility?

That would probably renew my interest I'm baseball for the coming season

Nimmo seems to be the popular name floating around. That probably means other teams are quite interested in him as well. I think the chances of Judge coming to Toronto are slim to none.

Jays were interested in Nimmo for a few yrs apparently but his vaccination status was a reason they've shied away from him.

Am I missing something about Nimmo? Good OPS and decent batting average the past few seasons, but I am not sure I'd call him a power bat. 16 HRs and 64 RBIs (career high) last year in 580 ABs. 2018 was the only other season he had double digits in HRs (career high 17HRs). Also looks like he commonly misses a lot of games.

His attribute is contact, low strikeouts, LHB, walks, good speed, but lower power than Teo. His OPS+ (adjusted OPS for ballparks) is the same as Teo so the potential of him having a 25HR season is there in Toronto.

Health wise, he has avg 99games the last 3yrs, Teo has avg 108.

Teo is a player that will have a higher chance at being an AllStar over Nimmo, but Nimmo fits the Jays potentially better if they are choosing to go a more 'well rounded' route.

    --edit--
health for the two over the last 3 yrs (2020 had 60games) is:
    Teo - 324/384 = 84.375% = 136.6875games/162game season
    Nimmo - 298/384 = 77.604% =125.719games/162game season

With Tapia, Zimmer and Teo gone, the Jays have cleared roughly $20m in space. Just saying.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Springer is a corner OFer starting next yr. And Nimmo is roughly going to get $20-23m range, who can play CF ($100m deal).

Looking at his injury history, I personally wouldn't be chasing Nimmo. They already have an injury proned Springer out there. There's smart asset management. Let's spend big money on guys who have a history of not playing. Great!

Stuff floating out there is Jays are looking at Bellinger for RF/CF too if the Dodgers non-tender him.

I would say the floor is JBJ (Bellinger's defense is amazing), but the ceiling is MVP. The guy can't hit for yrs now stemming from a shoulder injury a few yrs ago and his constant tinkering with his swing. I dunno if I'd bank on that being the only OF fix.

Mike Boboa (former Mets Beat writer) is saying Bellinger is signed to a multi-year deal (with opt outs) with the Jays.

He got the Gausman signing early last yr.

The guy who broke the Schneider signing said Bellinger to Jays for 2yr/16m with a players option in yr 2.
