Apparently Tocchet had a 4 week notice clause with TNT and the last 4 weeks it was known he was leaving TNT to join the Canucks, but he had to give the 4 weeks notice. So Rutherford "hired" Tocchet on Christmas, and essentially firing Boudreau the same day.

Rutherford's regime is so leaky with news.

According to Rutherford it was pure “speculation “ that Tocchet would be hired and Bruce fired. He acknowledged that the organization does not comment on “speculation “.

The fans want a rebuild. The fans want Bedard. The fans are tired of retooling or rebuilding on the fly. Retool has been the local buzzword since Luongo and the West Coast Express.

What I don't understand is why bother making a coaching change if Rutherford thinks they are tanking. I'm paraphrasing but he basically said that last week when he had his media scrum following Hughes' comments about the Pearson injury.

Does he think Tochett is going to improve the team and move them further out of the lottery? If so, that's dumb. They clearly aren't making the playoffs.

The unknown is what ownership wants to do. They should have just ran the thing into the ground this year but there have been a lot of rumours around Aqulini getting involved so who knows what management wanted to do versus what ownership wanted. It isn't clear there is an actual plan.

The team might see so much bad play seeping in under Boudreau that they knew he wasn't the coach in 2023-24 and want to have their guy in now, to tear down and build up.

If Tocchet prioritizes good play over winning then that's fine. But if he does everything to pull out wins, then this makes even less sense.

Tocchet is going to filter out the good from bad, at least that what management is hoping. Figure out who is worth keeping and who to start selling. Bruce wasn't gonna say shit with a mouth full of it.
