"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
I actually like this move by Dallas.
They (obviously) didn't want to move out a key player to fit in a bigger/longer contract.
This staggers their four biggest contracts to all end on different summer (2025 Benn, 2026 Robertson, 2027 Seguin, 2029 Heiskanen).
This makes it more flexible for management to deal with FA targeting/budgeting.
Specifically towards Robertson, in summer 2025... they also have Lindel ($5.8m), Suter ($3.65m), and Faksa ($3.25m) coming off books.
They'll know when July 1st, 2025 approaches what kind of number Robertson is looking for to extend, so they can hold that cash for J-Rob... of choose to invest it in 2025 UFAs.
I like it.
And for the right now, Pavelski is in his final year(s) - so they have a good "win now" team, especially with COL weakened by Kadri & goalie departures.
Projected cap in 2025-26 season is $92m, so you could say the cap in 2026-27 (yr Robertson is an RFA) could be $94m. Making a 9.39% cap (his current deal) a $8.8266m deal. So if he continues his projectory, he'll be 27yrs old when he enters the 2027 season. Set up pretty well for himself. Saves Dallas a few bucks now. Keeps him under their control a bit too so if he wants to leave, they can get some assets for him.
Really good deal. Makes Barzal's deal look worse (different situations though) to me.
