Thread: Zibanejad or Gaudreau

    Default Zibanejad or Gaudreau

    Pretty simple, I can take either of these players in a keeper league for the remainder of their contract. My team is in win now mode, H2H 20 team dynasty, points league. My thought is that Zibanejad probably has the higher floor, while Gaudreau has the higher ceiling. Who would you take?

    Normal scoring structure can mean a lot of different things to different people. Is it H2H or roto? Cats or points-only? The answer will vary depending on those settings.

    Overall feeling about these players though is that Gaudreau probably is the bigger points producer while Zibanejad will beat him in most peripherals (outside of SOG which is pretty equal). Gaudreau should be fine for at least 80-85 points (floor) and could go all the way back in the 100s (upside). I don't see Zibanejad dropping below 75 points or going over 95.

    I agree for the most part. What do you think about the teams they are on? I'm curious to see if Gaudreau and Laine can mesh. In my opinion they are two players that have a lot of variability. On the flip side what are the chances Krieder repeats, and how does that effect Zib's production.

    First let's compare the lines that they are both on at the moment. Zibanejad is to start the season with Kreider and Blais, while Gaudreau is to skate with Laine and Jenner. Just looking at that, I would say the advantage goes to Gaudreau. Points wise, I have them pretty much around the same. Zibanejad at 81 points and Gaudreau at 86 points. So, just by comparing those two things, I would lean towards Gaudreau.

    In a points only league, give me Gaudreau.

    Those are good points and kinda got me thinking too. I see Gaudreau as a true 1st line only kinda player. Don't think he slots into the roster in any other way, so there is incentive for his team to keep him top line, top PP. While Zib is a really talented player I think his versatility might work against him in the back end of his contract, at least for fantasy, if his team thinks it's better to play him further down the roster

    I think anyone would agree that Gaudreau is the better own over Zibanejad in points-only. I have them at 92 and 84, respectively. But that's why I'm curious about scoring settings.

    It's G,A,=1 PP,SH,GWG= +1, shots=.2, hits=.15. Scoring and PP scoring are huge in this league

    Ok, so under those settings, my own projection is:

    Zibanejad= 158 points
    Gaudreau = 153 points

    Both players should produce evenly on the PP. SH and GWG are random. Gaudreau shoots slightly more and Zibs hits a lot more (everyone does compared to Gaudreau). So the value is very similar. I'd probably lean Gaudreau because he can explode for 100 but it's close.

    What do you mean when you say you can have them for the remainder of their contract? What happens when their contracts expire?

    Right now it's Zibanejad for me.

    You can't keep a player with a UFA expiry. They go back into the draft pool w entry draft players

    Zibanejad with those settings. Higher floor and the ceiling is almost the same.

    Gaudreau for me personally - I think the switch has been flipped and he'll be a top five scorer for years to come. But Zibs is no slouch, especially in your format. So if you feel Zibs is safer, I can get behind that.
