Opening picks before me went as expected, was hoping one of those would fall.... though I'm not as big on Rangers SV% as the slam dunk #1 overall.

Definitely not a slam dunk as it's tied to one player essentially... But I took the gamble just because of the upside. And hey we gotta take risks on goalies 4 times this draft, so thought it might as well be Shesterkin and Co. Like a nervous teenager, I felt comfortable waiting and seeing until later for my first GF.
    ... and SA.

Yeah... Shesterkin was so formidably ahead of everybody else in SV% last year that I think it's a great pick.
And NYR is such a solid & rising team that you know they're going to get a lot of leads... and protect them...
Which means other teams will be throwing volume shots on net hoping to get one in... but really... those are low% shots for the shooters... which means high% saves for Shesty.
I thought that was the smart/correct #1 pick.

I considered taking the #1 slot to do just that...
But... as a Flyers fan... I couldn't root for that... and I didn't like the prospects of being "stuck" with whatever is left at pick #96.

To be clear I wasn't saying that the pick was wrong.
Thinking it is the clear cut #1 overall is...
I think Toronto has just as much chance placing first in GF as Rangers does in SV%

I think aiming for 1st in a category isn't the right way to go though. No team can truly be a favorite over the field to finish first in a category. But some team can show sustain success in a certain stat (like CAR with SA) which is what makes them great picks, in my mind.

With 12 rounds... it's pretty fun to just think "Well, I just gotta do better on my pick this coming round than everybody else does..."
I'm already really excited about starting to check a pick off my 4 in two categories... start planning how to choose next two picks.
    Really fun concept.

I flip flop on these teams more then I do on choosing players... I'm glad we aren't under a clock.

By the looks of results so far, we are all using quite similar metrics for ranking our choices.

Vegas D is my first pick that I reached a little for because I didn't think they'd make it back to me. But Cassidy should make that team stingy this year and they have a great D corps.

Had to leave a couple of selections on the board that stung a bit though
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

^I like that VGK-D pick a lot. That was the pick I was hoping would slide to me.
You are exactly right, they have a solid D as is, still with Mark Stone anchoring the O-side of the defense, and Cassidy is solid towards a "system".
That's some good smarts, IMO. Can't wait to see how it does. Nicely done.

I had all of the CGY and TB picks in mind at my 1.8 & 2.1 spots... so those also roll from where I had thought they should go.
Not many surprises so far - good set of choices!!!

So right now (for the spreadsheet) I have the tiers set in 8 block segments for each category.
Pick 1 is being thought of as being a tier 1 pick. However; this isn't always the case.
Take Eskimo Brother who has all three picks in GF (and pretend he ignores another category for awhile)... his first pick isn't going to be a tier 1 pick, but that's not necessarily a bad pick.
So I should be comparing each pick relative to draft position I think?... So your first 3 picks s/b expected in tier 1, next 3 tier two, next tier 3, next tier 4.
That's going to be a pain to automate on google sheets, be easier for me just to manually set them as the picks come through...

    I think it's fine as the simple GF1, GF2, GF3... SA1, SA2, SA3... sv%3, sv%4. Doesn't necessarily need to be more complicated than that I don't think. Up to you though.

Niconasr picking Toronto SA thinking they are going to have to step up and suppress those shots because their goalies aren't stopping them. Smart

Well I think it would look silly someone winning with a bunch of red formatted picks (which means bad). I can't have that happening
