Default Utility position for this league

    Hi,

Haven't drafted in this league yet but it has some quirky settings. For the utility position, should I draft a center or wing? I feel there will be enough capable defensemen left if 30-40 are drafted. This is a one year, 10 team league drafting
    C (2), LW (2), RW (2), D(3), U(1), G(2) and BN(4).

Categories are: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, SOG, & FOW. Goalie cats: W, L, GA, GAA, SV, SV%, SHO.

Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone in their leagues this year.

    Hmmm... this is interesting....

Is the league on Fantrax or some other platform?

The reason I ask is because of the FOW category.
It largely depends if the utility position allows all stats to be counted from it
or if only FOW are counted from those in the C position.

If utility players count the FOW stats - then you want to make sure you are drafting centres that fill those spots.
That's basically two extra spots to get the FOW stat without sacrificing other stats.

Most likely a center given the overall depth at the position

This is a private Yahoo league. Utility player counts the FOW stat along with all other stats. My thinking right now is to draft a C for the utility, and another for one of the bench positions. I'll use the other 3 BN positions for wings or a third goalie.

I wouldn't draft a Defense for the Utility position. I think you are on the right page with going with a Center at the Utility position and filling the remainder of your bench with the Wingers and Goalie and an extra Defense.

I have played in a private Yahoo league with both Faceoff Wins and the utility slot for the last few years. Even if a player does not get on the score sheet a guy like Crosby or Bergeron can get you 15+ faceoff wins on a good night. Somewhat like Evander Kane or Wilson getting 3+ hits per game. Some weeks you may not get many goals but if you have good centers to win faceoffs you will win the category.

Guys like Draisaitl, Giroux and JT Miller are even more valuable since they are dual designation. Meaning on a single night you can start Crosby at Center plus Draisaitl at Left Wing and Giroux at RW. Throw in another Center at the Utility spot and you could have 50 faceoff wins in a night. Obviously you want these guys to score too so you can't just focus on face offs.

Take a look at the season leaders for last year. Getting guys that play multiple positions and win faceoffs will be big.
    -Good luck

C's for sure @ Utility. Deeper position than winger, and like others have mentioned, they'll give you points without actually getting on the scoresheet every night.

Best Centre that takes face-offs ( to be clear - not saying he who takes the most).
At that depth some players have C eligibility, but barely take draws so just watch out for that.
