if he does not improve its big win for him, but MTL is banking that he will finally show flashes of his potential...all he needs to do is be in the 40-45 range for points and this is good deal for MTL...he will either be in AHL or be way above that by the end this deal is done imo...

About as broken down as Price's knee.

I guess Monahan is more able to play then I thought. Haven't been following Habs status lately.

He's apparently in line to be close for the opening game. We'll see.

No one is locked into anything except probably Suzuki and Caufield. Camp should be a wide open opportunity for all these guys.

Agree wholeheartedly. Can't wait to see how camp shakes out. Suzuki and Caufield together. Allen in net. Otherwise, I have no clue how lines and pairings will work out.

Yeah and of course the Slafkovsky intrigue. My guess is he gets 9 games, does decently buy goes to AHL until February, then comes back up after Habs trade Hoffman, Drouin, etc, and he never sees another AHL team bus.

It does seem like a popular idea to send him back to the AHL and I agree it would probably be the best thing to do. I simply feel he's going to show in camp that he's already one of the top wingers on this team and therefore, stay in the lineup. We'll see.

Here’s my theory. Slaf was picked for the package he brings, but a huge factor was his character and demeanor. He’s one of those magnetic but unassuming/unselfish guys you could see being loved by his teammates. Look at his reaction to Mesar getting picked. So sending him down to AHL would also give him a chance to bond with young guys he’ll be playing with going fwd, Guhle, etc. Not to mention the valuable development info the Habs will get from the Rocket coaching staff seeing him up close for 40 games or so. Plus he’s not going to sulk, not in his nature. It’s totally win win for the Habs, and also addresses the risk of him struggling early on if he stays up all year, with the fan base so amped up to see the first no 1 overall pick since Wickenheiser perform. Plus it’ll sell even more tickets in Laval!
