3 years of prime Oettinger for 4mil a year?! I realize he only broke out last year and has like what half a season of good stats. But I think he’s the real deal. This could be a bad gamble for him. However if he keeps up the star play his next contract will not be so team friendly.

Dallas has lots of issues but they do have potentially elite talent at each position.

Dallas does seem to have the top pieces in place with Robertson/Hintz up front, Heiskanen on the D and Oettinger in goal. If the pieces around them come together, this team could be scary good very quickly.

Well done Dallas. Great young goalie signed to a team friendly deal. Nowhere to go but up for Ott after this contract, I think he will be worth north of $6M after this contract.

Excellent bridge work by DAL.

Otter was deserving of a financial commitment and I respect DAL's desire to bridge him until more money (re: Benn contract, etc.) is available for them. There's still some risk (he is a goalie after all) so perfect balance imo.

At that cap hit, they should have got him signed for a longer term. If he keeps going the way he's going, that next deal will be expensive. I don't mind giving term to kids on the way it. It's giving long term deals to the older veterans than drive me nuts.

Oetter is an RFA after this deal, and it would be his final yr of RFA status so if he went longer, it was eating UFA yrs and his AAV would likely spike at that point.
