The most insignificant thread ever

We are finishing up our inaugural draft. 32 teams - 50 rounds - 1600 players.


My biggest league prior to this one was 408 players, so it is safe to say without Dobbers prospect guide, I would’ve been completely out of my depth.


My question is going to be tough and might waste your time because they could’ve already been picked, but I have selection 1599 out of 1600 to end the draft - who is a player that might not have been selected yet, but you’ve been sneakily keeping your eye on and is worth taking another flyer on? Who has slightly more boom than bust?


If your guy is a trade secret, I understand keeping it that way. Thank you.

He might have been already drafted... but Aleksi Heimosalmi is the first name that came to mind.

Ughh just lost my original post.

Short version:

a) Out of favour guys - T.Jost (MIN), S.Steel (MIN), A.Alexeyev (WSH), B.Wilde (NYI) or basically anyone that was once more highly-touted but due to really slow development isn't on the radar anymore

b) late bloomers - S.Walker (TB 7th rd now with MIN), A.Limoges (WPG college signee) off the top of my head.

c) forgotten goalies (best option likely) - M.Chrona (SJ) and J.VanPottleberghe (DET) jump to mind.

Truthfully the first guy who came to mind for me was W.Kaiser (CHI) as I'm holding off on adding him in leagues hoping he remains under the radar... but based on your sig, looks like you may already have ID'd him.

In that case, H.Thrun (ANA) is a guy I'm really big on to at least "make it" that most GMs don't have on their radars.

Skaters Pavol Regenda, Samuel Bucek, Denis Malgin, Xavier Simoneau, Alex Steeves, Viktor Lodin and goalies Dryden McKay, Strauss Mann, Mitchell Gibson. And I second Joren van Pottelberghe in case he's still available.

Cole Koepke. 24 year old Tampa prospect who I think has a better than decent chance to see some quality NHL time this season. With a pick that late an older player is worth taking a flyer on, you'll get an idea of what he can become sooner rather than later and if things aren't looking promising just move on from him.

I like the Pavol Regenda suggestion as well. And depending on your league rules regarding who can be rostered/stashed in minors, Marat Khairullin could be the KHLer that NHL teams will try to convince to come over for 2023/24. If you're willing to sit on him for a year he is poised for a breakout after being traded to St. Petersburg. He's 26 and far from a sure thing but those guys can get a lot of value coming in on cheap ELC contracts, even if it's just name-value as NHL teams pursue them and a little hype builds around them.
