I’m starting to understand value. I feel like I received a good third offer of Lindholm, Seider, D.Toews, Kasper, 1st in 2023 and 1st in 2024, but because there is no “star” coming back like everyone said, I guess the depth and better contracts don’t matter as much as I figured in my first attempt at these leagues.

Now you're getting closer! Yes this lacks the superstar player coming back but it's a much more solid offer and one you should consider. Lindholm (assuming Elias not Hampus) is a pretty decent young talent. Seider is a top young player and toews is a decent own as well. Two firsts can't be discounted either. I'm not mashing accept right away but I'm definitely giving this offer consideration

Offer 3 is solid, but who are you going to have to drop to make space for a 4:1?

If there's some bottom end guys filling your roster or some bad contracts you can dump then this is a trade that can provide extra cap wiggle room to make a separate deal to maximize the return and really stack your roster.

The picks are a nice toss in, but since it's a start up league I wouldn't put much weight into them since you don't know if the league will be around next year/the following.

to be honest i think i liked 2nd one better, at least you got a full blown star bordering on superstar in return. Seider could turn into that but i think he is ways away.

but i still would not trade Matthews...in 32 team league having top 5 player is gold....the last trade offer to you, was any of those players drafted in round 1? if not, who did he draft first?

This is an EXCELLENT offer.

In a salary cap league, it is all about $/P ratios, and maximizing those. In order to spend big on huge stars, you need to have cheap players who produce.

In your scoring setup, someone like Seider is a player to build around. Let's say he's good for 50 points, 150 shots, 150 blocks, 150 hits. That's roughly 95 FP in your setup, and he's on his ELC ($0.9M), which is a monster $/FP ratio. 95FP/0.9M = 105FP/$M. For context, Adam Fox put up 71 P, 162 SOG, 33 hits, 136 blocks, which is worth 104 FP in your setup, for $9.5M. $10.9 FP/$M.

I'd guess Josi was the top D producer last year? His shot/hit/block numbers are very strong... I'd guess that kept him above Makar. Both of those guys are in to $9M+ range though, so that probably has them in the 12-15FP/$M range.

Can you drop players or are you stuck with them? If you can drop them then it's easy enough to solve cap issues... but on the whole I think this is an excellent offer, and would probably take it.

EDIT: thinking about this even further, the torque to winning with rosters this deep is going to be balance. Not being too top-heavy, not being bottom heavy. So you shouldn't own any D that don't have a minimum of 300 SOG+hits+blocks, and you should be aiming to get that as high as possible. Getting 6 solid D will cover many many sins at F.

We can drop players with no penalty. No buyouts, no nothing. Just dropped. But I have four empty spots on my roster anyway because my plan was always to try and trade Matthews for a huge package, or use my 4 empty spots to steam 4 different minors in nightly to maximize my weekly GP.

We can drop anyone at anytime with no tying us to contracts or cap. But even still, I wouldn’t need to drop anyone because I have enough cap room and empty roster space because I was planning to trade Matthews for a big package from Day 1
