Is Nugent-Hopkins a keeper?
Team 2 in my signature.
I’m an Oilers fan and debating if I should keep Nuge as one of my keepers, or let him go to make space for someone else or hold an extra prospect instead. This year Nuge is going to lose out on top 6 ice time and maybe a bit of PP time as he’ll be deployed in more of a utility role.
I don’t really have a ton of high quality options to replace him with, so if I don’t keep him I would look at instead keeping one of these players:
NHLers:
- Gudas (great for hits and blocks)
- R. Colton (decent multi-cat)
Prospects I could keep instead:
- Jonatan Berggren
- Jordan Spence
I’m not ultra-competitive, so I don’t mind keeping an extra prospect in this situation.
Who would you keep out of these options for a mid-level competitive team?

This is what I think is the most likely scenario:
1st line:
Kane - McDavid - Yamamoto/Puljujarvi
2nd line:
Hyman - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi/Yamamoto
Nuge will definitely be in the mix as they mix and match throughout the season, but the above lines make sense and they can have Nuge slot in as 3C

Maybe just keep him, hope he has a hot start then deal him for a prospect better than Jordan Spence. He has struggled staying healthy so this is a big year for him to prove he deserves top 6 minutes. You have to bet he can improve stats wise. I also think he cracks the top 6.

I have to laugh at myself for this post from summer time, when I was debating not keeping Nuge.
I was super wrong about his deployment but ended up making the right call and kept him.
Nuge has been huge!
