I think they're fine with Allen and Montembeault this year. The upgrade needs to come the year after. I'm personally high on Cayden Primeau but I wouldn't mind seeing the Habs looking elsewhere either.

Not sure Primeau has progressed as well as some would like.

I agree though, Allen is fine for this year... or even Montembeault.

Last year was rough for Primeau, I agree. He was continually called up or down and there was a massive difference between the quality of defence in Montreal (awful) and the one in Laval (very decent).

He was marvelous in the playoffs though and that's a big confidence booster. He needs at least one more year in the AHL as the volume starter (which he should be) with maybe a cup of coffee in the NHL when the inevitable injuries hit.

AHL Playoff Primeau was so good, like a light switch flipped showing his true potential. I think he has it in him to be a good, not great, NHL starter - but something tells me HuGo will look outside the organization to find that elite goalie who can bring home that 25th Cup.

There's always goalies available because God knows drafting a developing goalies is a pain that few teams are good at. Montreals track record of developing skaters is scary enough, let alone finding a legit #1. Price has been in the league for quite some time and Montreal has yet to find anyone who could challenge or even push him during his tenure.

It’s a new regime and player development should hopefully be back on track. And of course they haven’t had anyone pushing Price. They had Price and haven’t really been looking to add one. I’ll give you that Fucale looks like a bust (old regime) but Primeau (also old regime) is showing promise. I would also argue the Habs have handeled both Suzuki and Caufield’s development pretty well. Romanov and a number of other prospects are also looking good. Let’s stop living in the past.

You're always looking for players to push for NHL jobs, or at least you should be. Not sure I give Montreal credit for Suzuki considering he was drafted and developed by another franchise. Caufield has been up and down to the AHL and short of St Louis finding a button to push on him late last season, his development has been questionable as well. Inconsistent to this point but promising. It will be interesting to see if MSL can continue to push his button.

In addition to StLouis’s apparent skill at connecting with and helping develop young players, thehiring of Adam Nicholas is HUGE. That guy will have tremendous influence, during the prospects skates last month Pouliot and others were raving about his approach and techniques and the attention given to each player.

Yeah all his evolution and development was in the OHL.

Price will go down as an all-time great next to Roy, Dryden and Plante. What a goalie. And were it not for that Kreider slip and fall, he probably has a Cup win to show for his efforts.
Really enjoyed Price as a Canadian Goalie stud. But I’m not so sure he’s hit the “all time great ranks of being compared to those 3 especially with his injury shortened career. I get the out pouring of love and support but Price Doesn’t touch Patrick Roy levels for me.

I love Price but this seems like a correct take. It’s too bad the Habs just weren’t good during his time there.

He brought a team with Desharnais as their 1C to the ECF....
In Price's career he has only had one 80 point player (for one season). Colorado had four 80+ point players last year alone.

Still has most wins by Habs goalie. When in relation to the Habs, he deserves every bit that Roy, Plante, Dryden get.

Speaks volumes to the piss poor job management did in his tenure. Wasted a great goalie with mediocrity.

that happens though, star players toiling on bad teams and dragging them to mediocrity instead of doing straight up poorly to get more high draft picks.

price was invincible in the 2014 olympics though. ill never forget that.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
