    Default Early D-men Keeper Options

    Good evening everyone!

Just seeing some of the new contracts being signed and trying to start looking into my final 1-2 keeper spots on D and will share my thoughts currently on each.

League: 10 Team, Keep 3 D-men, Goals/Assists = 1 point each and +/- = 1 point each either way. Salary Cap league based off each years total salary, no offseason trades allowed (more info in my signature).

Locked in Keeper is Ekblad @ $6,000,000
Basically Locked in is Forsling @ $2,500,000 - Possibly paired with Ekblad but coming off a good season and on a strong team.

    Options for final Keeper spot...
Morgan Rielly @ $8,000,000 - Top minutes and PP1 for a strong team, new contract makes him a pricey choice.
Oliver Kylington @ $2,500,000 - Had a great season but now with Weegar in town probably bumped down to 3rd pairing limiting minutes and offensive zone face-offs. Probably 0% chance at any PP deployment.
Brandon Montour @ $3,500,000 - PP2 and on a strong team, third pairing limits minutes 5-on-5.
Anthony DeAngelo @ $5,000,000 - Great offensive skill, should be PP1 but new/bad team and lots of question marks that come with that.
Alexandre Carrier @ $750,000 - Cheapest of my options but also easiest to redraft as doesn't bring the same to the table points wise, don't try to gauge +/- so the easiest none keep.

Any opinions or thoughts are greatly appreciated as always and will rep where I can!

I think DeAngelo is the pick here, but to be fair I haven't read the guides yet on his projections etc.
Philly will be a weak team sure, but they still need to score points and I have to assume that DeAngelo is in a good spot to get those points.

I agree with the reasons stated for all the other skaters. I think Montour also takes a hit since you are keeping two other FLA defense.

My other keepers are as follows and our cap mimics the NHL so will move to $82.5m...

    Forwards: Huberdeau 6.2, Lindholm 3.85, Barkov 12, Marner 8, Kaprizov 10, Hagel 1.45, Terry 1.55, Zegras 0.925.
    Defense: Ekblad 6, Forsling 2.5.
    Goalie: Shesterkin 6

So that gives me a total of $58,475,000 leaving $24,025,000 for one keeper and the draft (4 forwards, 3 dmen, and 4 optional bench spots).
If I kept Rielly it moves me to $66,475,000 leaving only $16,025,000 for the draft but locks in a solid core and forces me to focus on drafting ELC/vet/bargain contracts only.

His upside and situation should lead to lots of minutes and opportunities I just struggle with the idea he could put up 80 points but if the Flyers have a bad year could pay $5m for someone who goes big time in the wrong direction with +/- but that stat is impossible to predict.

I also like DeAngelo here. The contract is in the middle so to speak. Reilly is pretty rich and as you say this doesn't allow a whole lot of flexibility and the draft table. The lesser contracts are best described as you get what you pay for. Forsling BTW, is a great contract if he can put up close to 50 again, he's projected at 47. Here is Dobber's projection for DeAngleo, PP1 and 57 pts. Decent value if he hits that for 5 Mil. Reilly is projected for 68, however the extra 11 pts costs you 3 Mil, so not great value there. Montour is projected for 33, I really like the extra 24 pts that DeAngelo offers for the extra 1.5 a better contract than Montours' IMO.

Thanks for the insight. 11 points for 3 mill isn't worth it but if it also boils down to team and DeAngelo goes -10 on the year and Rielly is +10 then its 3 mill for 31 points, damn I hate that +/- is so heavily weighted in my league lol. I will REP when possible Bubba!

With +/- I'd avoid DeAngelo, due to the Flyers sucking, and DeAngelo being defensively brutal. I'd actually prefer Reilly due to +/-, but I do realize it's somewhat fickle.

I'd look to make a deal here if at all possible.

Fickle is a nice way of putting it. I also am having a hard time seeing Rielly not being the pick. Expensive but gives me the best core and can always swap in and out cheap D on strong teams and ride them for +/- with minimal point production. Unfortunately, we do not have offseason trading so the only option is to make trades once the draft has begun but that requires you to keep players you want to trade, our league has only seen 2 trades in my 3 years since joining and both have been initiated by me lol. Basically pick your keepers and hit up the FA pool when needed.
