I have to admit that I simply don't understand this. You say you are rebuilding. So, you are trading away a PPG+ 23 year old forward and an elite 22 year old 60 pt +offensive defensemen for a 24 year old PPG forward, a Russian prospect who may never play in the NHL, a 22 year old forward who is struggling to get his NHL career on track and you are swapping a 2nd for a 5th overall which honestly, in this draft class is arguably identical value. I dunno. Others may see this differently but I think you would be wise to stick with what you have and build around that, this trade IMO, is just a big not for me.

I see The Cat and Thomas being pretty much equal value, slight edge to Debrincat, but moving Hughes for Wahlstrom and what I consider a long shot prospect (19th overall and HUGE Russian factor) is not a win for you IMO. One step forward and two steps back perhaps. As I also said, the player you draft second overall or 5th is also equal value IMO, I don't see that helping you.

This is a no go imo. Granted Im more about points only leagues but this looks like a step back to me. Thomas and Debrincat is a wash so you are giving up hughes for that other pile of meh. Look at moving J Carlson.

Yeah, DeBrincat is a great add, but especially on a rebuilding team, I don't see the logic here. The most obvious player for you to move is Carlson, and I think Lehner can be a great trade chip as well if he gets off to a strong start this year. Ristolainen is also likely quite valuable in your format, if he bounces back a little bit offensively.

In a 16 team league, with the players below, why are you trying to rebulid? I also don't like the trade, it makes you worse now and worse later IMO.

    Here's my thoughts.

In this setup, Debrincat is the best player by far. Thomas is finding his groove but lets be honest, he doesn't shoot enough, doesn't score a lot of goals, does next to nothing physically with your peripherals in your setup. Sure he had 20goals this past year, shooting 17.4%. That will regress or at best, will stay around the same. Points only, sure, the value is there. Multi-cat, not so much. Debrincat is a MUCH better player in this format. Way, way better.

Same for Quinn Hughes. Points only, he's a beast but in a multi-cat format, I am not nearly as big of a fan.

That being said, I think you are underselling the name value you are giving away. People eat up Quinn Hughes like gravy and you arent getting enough of a return. I have no issues dealing away Thomas and Hughes in this format for Debrincat + but the + you are getting here isn't tempting to me at all. I dont know what the other options are but I'd want a better secondary piece than Svechkov and Wahlstrom. The difference in the draft pick is minimal to me.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting
    Goalie points W=2pt L=-1pt SHO=2pt

Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Mercer, JRobertson, RThomas, Kucherov, Nugent-Hopkins, Tuch, KConnor, Necas, Point, Konecny, SJarvis, Cozenz, Morrissey, Bouchard, Josi, Novak, Tolvanen, Peterka, Brink

    G- Vasilevskiy, Sorokin, Oettinger

This right here. Both players you're looking at giving up are not really of huge value in a multi-cat format. I had actually moved Hughes in the past for that exact reason. That said, Hughes is a big name, one that people recognize. He is what I would call a "shiny thing" and people like shiny things. You should be able to get a much higher return for a deal involving Hughes. Tell the other guy to up the ante or you walk.

I'd do it IF you weren't including the 5th. Having the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in a draft completely resets your farm team and you can use them for improving your team today. Having 4 of Slaf, Nemec, Wright, Cooley, Gauthier, and whoever else is a big revamp to your prospect pool, and you have the open slots for it.

But I'm not doing it if I'm including the 5th because having 3 of those guys does the same to having 4 of them. If you include the 5th, your other sweeteners need to improve.
