Bruins Sign David Krejci To One-Year Contract

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, August 8, that the team has signed forward David Krejci to a one-year contract through the 2022-23 season worth $1 million, plus an additional $2 million in performance-based incentives.

I guess it's technically not re-signing now that I think about it but y'all know what I mean

Krejci coming back... seems like a Jagr thing to do... must be something in the water in Czechia.

I thought this was a bit curious for Krejci... given that he sold his Boston townhome last fall, had the family moved to Czechia - including 7-year old kid.
I wouldn't have expected him to return to the US for... 1-year. I wonder if the wife & kids will be coming for the year as well. (? I'm super curious in that - as I am in the "family-side" of NHL playing ?)

Krejci's Czech team wasn't all that good last year.
Maybe it wasn't a great lockerroom.
Maybe they could use a little more US cash flow.
Maybe the wife & him need some "space"... (Hey... it happens...)

The one thing I will say - the Eastern Conference is loaded now with top emerging teams... and the Bs have to be kidding themselves a bit if they think they can make another run with their D.

    IDK... we'll see.
But it is fun to see the "band back together".
Tuukka Rask meanwhile be like "Damn it... didn't time that right..."

Bruins are going to need these guys to keep the team afloat for a few months with all of the injuries. Could be a rough start in Boston.

My thought is there was multiple "minor" things that brought back Krecji:

    - Czechia had the 4th highest inflation in the EU over the last yr.
    - His family didn't like Czechia. He said he wanted to play in front of his parents, brother and friends. Wanted his kids to live where he grew up, and have them grow up around his parents. Maybe the family just didn't like it.
    - The state of Russia/Ukraine being what it is so close to them
    - Bruce Cassidy gone
    - Pasta, Berg, Marchand convinced him at Rask's wedding that happened like a week or 2 ago. Maybe being around them again brought back the feels.

From my understanding, this was the main reason why he left. Also the reason Bergeron was contemplating retirement and was so hesitant in coming back. Without that hurdle, both of the signings make sense.

All indications are Krejci hated Cassidy. However his Czech league results don’t inspire a ton of confidence that Krejci could still be a capable #2 C

Czech water is on par with Mexican water. True story. At least that is what my stomach thinks.

While inflation is high, a beer is still half the price of North American and 5 times as good. Generally the cost of living there is still way lower than here. It likely is culture shock for the family though.

I think I saw Czechia's inflation rate was like 17% in June. With Extaliga the expected salaries are like $50,000usd-$190,000usd. Could just not be enough to deal with the raising prices of everything especially if you're being offered $1m+ to go back to the USA. I get the price difference like you are saying, but if you see the prices of stuff raise, and your pay isn't at the same level when you're offered 10x that somewhere else, it's an influence.

Oh well. We'll see if it's a worth while risk. Curious what his performance bonus is, might be the same as Bergeron's.

Inflation is rampant in lots of places in Eastern Europe with the nearby war, and especially some food prices, from what I'm being told.

Unsurprising he came back after the coach he was rumored to want gone became gone.
