Good thing the Bruins have that performance-bonus cap limit available to sign these guys.
(I think I read each team gets 7.5% of the max cap... so $82.5m x 0.075 = $6.1875m per team, per year, that they can "bonus" away without impact on cap - if the player meets, which works esp well on age 35+ ers on 1yrs)
    https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#:~:t...0upper%20limit.

One last run for the Bs... I think the East is too loaded for them to make a run... but sometimes, everybody needs closure.
Even hockey fans. And for the Bruins era... this certainly seems like (it could be)... the last year of an era.

So the way I have understood Performance Bonuses and cap is that the Cap is based off of players not meeting their performance bonus (that's why Bergeron's cap hit is $2.5m). But if the Bruins are at 82.5m exactly, they can exceed that number by 7.5% via Performance Bonuses. However, they get penalized the next yr by however much they go over the cap.

2022-23: They are able to operate at a $88.275m cap (cap+7.5%)
2023-24: They need to operate at a $77.3125m cap. (83.5m-7.5%)

However with the Bruins, the max performance bonuses paid out will be $2.5m (Bergeron)+ $2m (Krejci) + $150k (Swayman) = $4.65m (as of today). They have $1,258,333m in cap (with Zacha as an RFA still). So if all 3 hit their bonus (and Zacha is unsigned), they go over the cap by $3,391,667 and next yr their 'max cap' will be $83,500,000-$3,391,667 = $80,108,333

But with 8 guys in the NHL UFA's next season, I don't think the Bruins care too much about 2023-24 cap.

Maybe the above is what you meant though in that case, my bad for misinterpreting.

Yes, applied next year. (i.e. Kicking the can down the road.)

It IS a bit interesting... because, I believe, the Bruins will be operating at 100% cap if the have to put their LTIR in place (which I believe, they must with injuries & current cap situation).

Ya it'll be interesting what their path will be once Marchand/McAvoy/Grzelcyk are back

Indeed. Will be interesting to see how this impact's the articles and lists based on cap hit. Also interesting to see how cap-based fantasy hockey leagues implement this. (My guess is Bergereon will be a cap hit of 2.5M this year, and then no penalty to fantasy GMs next year for the going over).
