McKenzie Gore, CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood and Jarlin Susana plus Hosmer (3-$39M after this season) to Wash for Soto/Bell. That is probably the most substantive deal in deadline history
    https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/st...FKVJrtLRQ&s=19

Soto deal will not be official until Hosmer agrees to waive his no-trade stipulation to the Nationals. To this point he has not, according to a source. Negotiations almost certainly taking place.

All the MLBers in the trade are repped by Boras. Hosmer was likely talked to about this before so it'll def not be hung up because of Hosmer. But he might end up just getting waived by the Nationals and they'll eat his deal and he'll be a FA. Or he'll get flipped.

Huge Padres deal, largest in MLB deadline history and likely the largest deal since Miggy? Abrams, Gore, and Hassell III are 3 really good uoung players, but Gore needs to figure out his health and control issues to make this even close to a win for the Nationals.

    Gore - 1999 born
    Abrams - 2000 born
    Hassell III - 2001 born
    Wood - 2002 Born
    Susana - 2004 Born

    Soto - 1998 born.

The 3 center pieces of the deal for Soto are guys 1-3yrs younger than Soto...it's nothing about getting younger. It's about keeping control of assets. If the Nationals wanted more MLB ready guys they'd likely get a deal in the winter (like one with Bichette level of player), but for prospects/MLB guys they got a solid-ish return.

Still though...Soto is 23yrs old, and will still bring in 2 top prospects next yr if Padres can't re-sign him.

Hosmer decided to go Dadonov/Wolf of Wall Street and said "I'm not F leaving!" and he is now not part of the trade. However, all insiders say the deal will go through and Soto is a Padre.

Hosmer to Boston. Eating 44mill of his remaining (roughly, quick mental math) 50m...sorry they are eating a large portion of the $44mill owed.

Considering how much money the Padres are paying of his salary for Boston, I'd say it is.

    https://twitter.com/redsoxpayroll/st...yFN41vFsg&s=19

    Hosmer, pending cash return:

    '22: $5.94MM (player opt-out)
    '23: $13MM AAV / actual pay
    '24: $13MM AAV / actual pay
    `25: $13MM AAV / actual pay

It'd be hard for him to find 3/$39MM on the market. Likely to not opt out.

If SD pays almost all, it's like having a rookie for 3 yrs.

its fun watching teams loading up. padres have the dodgers in the way so i can certainly understand going for it when you still got machado and tatis in their primes.

money-aside, the chances of those prospects providing soto-level impact in their age-23 seasons is lets say near impossible. cumulatively maybe if 3 of the 5 prospects are all-stars then its more bearable. lets see what the padres offer for a contract this offseason, couldve be even bigger than trout's deal

red sox get a good deal on hosmer and he should be flipped easily with that much money paid off already should the red sox find a star 1b instead
