Probably a good idea to kick the can down the road. He should be able to cash in at some point. Not a lot of money in the system right now.

Have to think he gets traded at the deadline with 50% salary retained to a contender. This is like the 1yr deal Taylor Hall signed in Buffalo a couple years back.
great signing by the ducks. they need to get to the cap floor and can flip this guy for assets at the trade deadline.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
Might be able to extend him if everything works out. Not very often you get a top end offensive D man and not have to give up assets. He's still young enough to fit into their core moving forward.
If it doesn't work out, ya, flip him for something at the deadline.
It was probably a forgone conclusion, Klingberg leaving Dallas, but as a Miro owner… YES!!
Interesting signing. Really like it for Anaheim for the reasons stated above. But a curious signing for Klingberg, IMO. What does this say about the market for him?
The destination means he's not strictly interested in playing for a contender. The term and dollars suggest that teams with cap space were not interested in giving him a longer-term deal. $7MM ain't cheap, but it's not extraordinary in today's NHL either. Puts him just inside the top 25 D-men, I think.
What do others think?

I think he could be a big part of the Ducks success (if they have any) or he gets traded to a contender by the deadline. It’s a good signing and a no lose situation for the Ducks.

According to Marek and Friedman the Stars offered him 8 years mid to high 50s, so say about $7m/year. Assuming that’s even in the ballpark, why in God’s name didn’t he smash “accept” on that one?!?
