More points, less of a cap hit. Seems like a win-win.
D. Toews.
Theodore. Toews will be replaced by Byram as Makar's partner.
Toews for me. Proven over maybe….

Most people thought Theodore would be the PP1 D-man for VGK last year... but Pietrangelo proved to be more effective.
And... IIRC... down the stretch AP was getting more PP1 time.
I drafted Shea in a one-year league and was pretty disappointed in his output.
He's certainly not/no-longer the consensus #1 offensive D-man in Vegas.
And the team's offensive firepower does seem to be declining, especially with Stone seeming wonky and MaxPac gone.
I am not a Theodore believer.
And one only needs 80% of Theodore's production from Devon Toews to warrant choosing his $4m cost vs. Theodore's $5m cost.
Byram may emerge, but cap leagues are about value per dollar... and for next two years, I think that's Toews contract.
Some great arguments on both sides here.
Personally I'd lean Theo (suggesting the added cap isn't a MAJOR issue) as I expect VGK to be a MUCH more impressive team this year compared to last.
Really fair take by P7 though on why D.Toews (plus added cap) holds more value.

I don't disagree with this, it's likely inevitable, but I'm betting that it's not going to happen anytime soon. Toews has two years left on a 4.1 Mil AAV which is incredible value for both fantasy owners and the Av's. Unless Toews craps the bed along side Makar, which is highly unlikely IMO, his deployment will not likely change for the duration of his contract. Skating over 25 minutes a game playing the complete game that he does, Toews is not going to be replaced by a 21 year old any time soon.

LeftWingLock had the last 10 games of the VGK Powerplay D-QB in the top 10 combinations as:
Pietrangelo - 62.9%
Theodore - 31.0%
Total - 93.9%. the final 6% is somewhere in the other combinations used.
However the top PP lineup was:
Stone, Eichel, Stephenson, Pacioretty, Pietrangelo - 48.1%
Marchessault, Roy, Karlsson, Dadonov, Theodore - 11.6%
So ya, Pietrangelo was the QB1 to finish the yr. However with a new coaching staff, that can all change. I'm not 100% sure on what the tendencies of the new coaching staff is on the PP.
For me, it's Toews due to the uncertainity of the PP right now, and the cap difference ($1.1m in savings).
