What an excellent pickup for NSH imo.

Josi/Ekholm/McDonagh ensures you've always got a top-flight defender on the ice. Toss in cheap(ish) deals for A.Carrier, D.Fabbro, J.Lauzon (and Boro bringing the heavy in needed games) and I'm loving their D corps.

Moving P.Myers' salary makes it an even bigger win for NSH imo.

For TB, they get the salary relief they wanted while opening a spot for Sergachev to take on bigger minutes... so a "win" for what they were trying to do.

Still - McDonagh is cool as a cucumber... exactly who I want on a team with Cup aspirations. Tough loss for TB imo (even though it's what they were desiring to do).

    Friedman just posted this:

“On Philippe Myers, acquired by TB in the McDonagh deal: he’s a unique contract case. If bought out, Lightning will have a $617K credit next season, then owe $633K in 2023-24”

I guess if they can’t get their cap numbers to work, there’s always this option to kick that $600k ball down the road to the following season.

    Interesting.

6.8 for 4 more years for a 33-year old McDonough who has A LOT of mile on him. Guess you can LTIR anyone nowadays.

But I also like Tampa's D getting a little weaker even if they got a lot of cap relief.

JBB plays 4D chess on the cap. I'll be laughing if the Sandin offer sheets materializes.

great pickup for nashville, basically cost them nothing for a top 2/3 dman. main risk is when mcdonagh inevitably declines since hes now 32 with many deep playoff runs now but with only 4 years left on his deal worth the risk.

i have to think mcdonagh made the best of the situation considering he very well couldve just said no to being moved. main benefit i can see is from a personal standpoint since he and his wife are from minnesota. minnesota wasnt an option so at least he was traded to the central division so they visit minnesota more often. tennessee is also one of the more favourable states for income tax factors

I wanted to say that I know nothing about the forward Tampa acquired, but I'm really hoping he's a middle six guy with a bunch of different decent skills, so that last name fits.

Couldn't give Rep on the site, so this virtual applause will have to do.

"The way it was described to me if Ryan McDonagh didn't agree to be traded, he was going to be waived and Tampa had a commitment from Columbus to claim him, he wasn't thrilled about being traded," Kypreos said.

After this TB is a bit weaker. Good news for the East.
