Default Ivan Fedotov arrested by Russian authorities

Hard to know what is accurate but this is a strange and worrying story about Ivan Fedotov who was likely going to make his north American pro hockey debut next season.

Working on getting more information on the reported detainment of Ivan Fedotov in Russia for "draft dodging". This is something that could affect a lot more than just the Flyers goalie prospect.

    https://twitter.com/karl_khl/status/...6TaW5gQRw&s=19

Per Russian media, Fedotov fell ill during the detainment at the military enlistment office and had to be taken away with an ambulance. Knowing the Russian regime's usual treatment of it's own citizens, I hope Fedotov is alright. https://t.co/UOogVzEkxH

The value of any Russian player who isn't currently in the US or of big enough stature (e.g., Ovechkin) is sharply impacted now. I'd have a hard time drafting an incoming guy like Danila Yurov with stuff like this happening.

It'll be a few years in the future, but I wonder if Michkov will be treated similarly.

Not sure if it's true, but I read his arrest was retaliation for signing in the NHL. This kid wasn't even born in Russia...

Upon hearing about the arrest of Ivan Fedotov, Kirill Kaprizov reportedly immediately returned to the United States. His name is linked to fraudulent military IDs being sold to players, including Fedotov, and Kaprizov is now wanted in Russia, per Sport-Express

Can someone explain what this part means? I read it as Kaprizov has been accused of creating/distributing fraudulent IDs (most likely a trumped up charge) by Russian authorities??

My understanding is it would be similar to someone signing-off for a on court-mandated community service that wasn't actually done but I have also seen speculation it involves signing-off on fraudulent student-status for players which would exempt them from compulsory military service.

"Kaprizov may be linked to former police officer, Farit Samigullin, who was detained in April for illegally helping buy fraudulent military identifications" link

The long standing rumour in Russia is that someone helps athletes avoid conscription to the Russian Army by having fake military ID cards. Samigullin has rumoured to help Kaprizov, Fedotov, and others. A police search of Samigullin's phone provided evidence of his correspondence with various athletes when he was arrested in April. Fedotov reportedly wanted to buy a military ID before signing with CSKA, where that documentation is required.

As for Fedotov, the timing of when Samigullin was arrested (April) lines up to when Fedotov said he no longer was going to play with CSKA and will instead continue his career with the Flyers (April). He likely knew he wasn't getting that fake ID, and wanted to hop the ocean and avoid military conscription.

Ivan Provorov who always goes back to Russia for the offseason, did not this yr (reported by a Flyers reporter).

    Also, for what it's worth,

sport-express.ru isn't reporting that he is now wanted in Russia but that someone on the SHOT telegram channel has made that claim. Kaprizov's father is claiming the report is bunk and that Kirill still has his student status and is exempt from military service

Mike Russo also saying that Kaprizov is not currently in the US

Three current KHL players face up to 12 years in Russian prison due to falsified military IDs. Anvar Suleimanov (Salavat), Vladislav Lukin (Admiral), and Mikhail Vorobyov (SKA) are the 3 players.

Rumoured the timing of Fedotov's arrest was they weren't going to do anything but once he made plans to leave Russia to play with the Flyers organization they changed their minds and arrested him. He is currently set to play hockey on a Russian base.

So it sounds like it's the USA denying him though, not the Russian side of this. I dont know what paperwork you need from your home country in a visa but it doesn't sound like it's the Russians?
