Host team that shouldn't be in the tournament wins...You can take this as a "that's why you put them in the Tournament. Chaos!" or you can take it as "not a real championship. Bought your way in".
For something like the Memorial Cup, you want these wrinkles in there as it helps promote it, and gives a reason for a city to host it.

i was listening to teh NHL network yesterday and they were talking briefly about how to make this Tournament a bigger deal, like adding more teams? im not sure how they could do that. its best of each league plus the host. it would take some of the prestige away from each leagues championship to invite the second place team from each as well to the MC tourny IMO.Originally Posted by 2014olympicgold

Change the date of when it happens is the only thing I can think of. It's next to impossible though because of the draft date, and season length. But if they were able to shift the tournament away from the stanley cup finals, maybe they get more views.
