The Kings have a bright future, although they aren't ripe with scoring options at the moment.

But Fiala had a great season in spite of terrible deployment in Minnesota. He scored 85pts playing on the 2nd/3rd line, mostly getting PP2 deployment, with just over 17mins TOI. In LA, with the contract he just signed, he's basically their top scoring option now. Hard to imagine he won't be getting every opportunity to score and be successful.

Overall, I can't help but think this trade helps Fiala much more than it hurts him.

Minnesota didnt have much leverage here.
Teams know what the Wild are up against with 12m this year on Parise / Suter buyouts and $14m each of the next 2 years after for Parise and Suter.

I would think they knew where they were with most all teams that were interested and so they pulled the trigger on what was probably their best offer.

I like this for Fiala as long as you aren't in cap leagues. LA is a team on the rise as their youth progresses. Kind of a meh return for Fiala but all things considered, they did get a 1st and a quality prospect for a guy they probably weren't re-signing so I look at it that way as a win for Minny.

I don’t think you can call it win for Minneapolis. They created this cap situation where they are forced to trade a player like this for a pretty underwhelming return.

Contract breakdown that we know so far:
    NMC between 2023-2026
    MNTC 2026-2029

    7.875aav. 7yr

Cap friendly doesn't have the signing bonuses up yet.

I think it could be a bit of an overpay in terms of dollar, but not much. Fiala was part of the offensive turnaround for Minny, and over the last 3yrs he's gotten 179pts/196gp (75pt/82gp). No real numbers jumped last yr in terms of sh%, Shots Through %, Corsi, oZS%. He did get a bump in his PDO but nothing crazy. He just ended up growing in a top line role and minutes, shots increased. He's prolly closer to that 75pt mark as a player vs the 85pt mark, but he'll help Byfield's transition into C1 down the road.

For Minny, the return is a what it is, and considering they got a top 20pick is pretty nice. They own the 19th, and 24th pick so maybe they move up more or stay where they are if the guys they want are there still. Faber is a Minny native and plays for the Uni of Minny so this is nice for him. He was a 2020 2nd round pick. For RFA rights, it's not bad.

The last NHL player Signing Rights being moved are:
    Zadorov for a 3rd
    Sam Reinhart for Levi+Conditional 1st
    Buchnevich for Blais+2nd round pick
Nedeljkovic for Bernier + 3rd round pick
    D.Toews for 2 2nd round picks
    M.Murray for Gruden + 2nd round pick
Anderson for Domi (RFA) + 3rd round pick

Based on the Buchnevich and Reinhart trade comparables, what Minnesota got seems about right. That still doesnt equate to a good trade for Minnesota though, bad cap management forcing you to trade one of your best players is never a positive.

This is an okay deal for Minnesota, given the self-made cap problems.

Guerin's issue is that he made a dumb move doing a double buyout to deal with the horrible contracts Fletcher gave out. They still have cap issues, but at lest they don't have the worst GM in the league trying to manage them.

Without Parise/Suter buyouts, they would be making 15m against the cap. With the buyouts, Parise/Suter/2 replacement level players = 12.6m+2 1m contracts = 14.6m. I don't think the wild would have been able to afford Fiala regardless of the buyouts. They might not have been able to even hold Fiala last yr on that 1yr deal, trading him at a lower value.

They should have bought out Parise but not Suter.

There was apparently attitude issues with Suter that they didn't like with a sr player around their younger core

Now the young core is quite a bit weaker without Fiala. Pick your poison. Seems like Suter’s bad attitude could have been managed - and he can still play.
