Default 1st pick in entry draft unsure who to take

I have the first pick in the draft this coming year. In a league that counts only goals and assists (but goals being more important since we have to structure lines, and within you line, for each goal scored you can count two assists), who would you take? Wright, Slaf or Cooley?

It comes down to Wright or Cooley for me. You're probably not going wrong if you take Wright. There are outcomes where Cooley will outproduce Wright, but that's the chance you take. If Cooley goes to Arizona, as seems likely per mocks, then I think you have to downgrade Cooley a little bit. Plus he'll probably need more acclimation time given his smaller stature.

I have them ranked Slafkovsky , Wright Cooley but that is after lottery and with assumption that Slaf goes to NJ

If you have all 3 ranked the same and are fine with any of them, see if the guys who have the 2nd or 3rd overall are willing to move either one plus an asset for your 1. Let them make the decision easier for you, and capitalize on an additional asset.

Wright @ 1 would be my choice tho.

i haveem ranked (for NHL purposes) Wright, Slaf Cooley

BUT..ive said before, IM taking SLaf based on my needs. and there's Wright comparos to TAvares, and Bergeron obviously great NHL players, but not top tier points monsters. If you have no issues with C vs W, the i might be inclined to take Cooley over both...but i dont really think you could go wrong in any direction.

Wright for me. He scored 39 goals at 15 years old in the OHL. You have to be a special player to do that. He’s maybe not going to be the superstar we expect 2 years ago but i still see him as a point per game player in the future. But that’s just me

I'd take Wright, but I'd be willing to trade down if you're that undecided, and get get something useful for doing so.

This hinges on who the Devs and Yotes pick at #2 and #3. But let's go with the consensus...

    1. Habs, Wright.
In all likelihood, Wright slots in as the versatile #2C behind Suzuki long-term and ends up a steady and solid 30G/40A/70Pts pivot. Think Bo Horvat-ish. I don't see Barkov upside with him.

    2. Devs, Slaf.
If NJ keeps this pick, Slaf could feast playing with an elite passer like Hughes. He'll also be the main triggerman on the PP eventually IMHO. In a goal-bonused format, Slaf could be gold. Think Fil Forsberg-ish. 36G/32A/68Pts.

    3. Yotes, Cooley.
For me, Cooley is this year's Zegras. In 2-3 years we'll all be WTFing about how we passed on him. He'll be fantasy's shiny toy this time next year. I like his upside in the 80+ point range TBH. The thing is, I think he's the perfect passer for a kid like Guenther. So think Marner-ish. 26/50/76 type stuff.

I don't think you could go wrong with either of these dudes. Honestly, I'd see who picks 3rd and see what type of sweetener they would offer to move up to #1. But if I had to make the pick at 1... forgetting about all of Wright's intangibles... give me Cooley long-term. I think this kid is going to be a legit beast.
