Good job here to Vegas. Foley doesnt have to pay the $$$$ to Weber as its insured and Saves $5m in cap. Plus removing the awkwardness of Dadonov with that oopsy trade to ANA at deadline.
    Big win for Vegas here.

Can someone explain this deal to me?? Was leaving Weber on LTIR going to cost the Habs anything at all??
So Vegas is now paying Weber $30+ million and he will never play for them??

VGK gets rid of the player they didn't want, and frees up cap space. MTL gets an overpaid winger....

The only thing that makes sense to me is that the Canadiens realized they wouldn't be able to trade Weber for future pieces, but they might be able to flip Dadonov at the trade deadline for future pieces.

i could not agree more... Vegas wanted him out for a while, they got contract that will help with cap space and MTL maybe getting decent scorer but this guy has been so inconsistent that you have no clue what you getting.

i obviously dont know this and could be wrong but this looks like something Vegas would initiate and MTL simply took the bait. But there is some possible reward with this risk...he could actually be decent if he has one of his better years...than again...does MTL want to be any good next year? if i was them i wouldn't.

Using LTIR cap space is extremely limiting. There are restrictions on bringing players up etc. Vegas is in a position where they HAVE to do this. Montreal is not. Montreal gave Vegas the ability to operate this year and in so doing got something for nothing. Neither teams cares one whit about the actual money owed. This trade is a win win.

Good trade for both. Montreal wasn't going to get much for Weber as he's not going to play again. Dadanov isn't much but he might have a bounce-back year and as people are saying, he could net you more than Weber at the trade deadline. Vegas doesn't mind paying what the insurance doesn't cover, their priority was getting cap compliant. Maybe Montreal could've squeezed Vegas for a bit more, but not much.

Yup, LTIR is not something teams want to be in if they can avoid it. MTL may end up in it with Price at some point, but being in LTIR means you don't accrue cap space throughout the year that can be used at the trade deadline and I believe performance bonuses get applied to your cap the next season if they're hit that season. Vegas is going to need to go into LTIR to fit everything in.

Yes, the bonus performance issue is especially annoying for really high draft picks on their ELC if they hit their bonuses......like Shane Wright.

Vegas did well to only take the contract of Weber all things considered. They were willingly going to give a second rounder to dump dadonov along with taking on ryan kesler's contract. There was a bit more of a timing issue at the trade deadline but they had a mechanism to activate eichel/patches/stone anyway so this effectively saves them a decent draft pick.

Both teams got something they wanted out of this trade. Now it looks like Dadanov is on the decline and his best days are behind him so Montreal may not get much out of him. He is also 33 years old so he is at that advanced age as well.
