Well at least we get some good quotes for interviews.
I’m not sure how this will work but he has been good with rebuilding teams in the past if I remember correctly.

Risto better get his shit together on the back end.
Sooo Hart’s numbers should improve with Torts system, Risto will be benched, and Attikson is pretty bummed right now?
I've only read that he's been "offered" the job but negotiations aren't complete yet. We'll see.

I hate this, but I'm not surprised. The Flyers aren't a young rebuilding team, they are a more veteran team that is poorly run. Sadly, the GM likes doubling down on that sort of thing. I'm not sure Torts develops young players enough to make things noticeably better over the long haul, but I guess the team improve on last year to the point where they miss the playoffs by less.
Tortorella is going to be an interesting fit in Philly. He's either going to go over really well or really poorly. And I realize that's sort of the norm for him, but Philly is a weird fanbase.
Ristolainen being benched repeatedly would be hilarious, but I don't think that's likely since he's the GM's guy. We'll see about Hart. There's been a vibe that Fletcher wants a more veteran goalie.

This should be fun. Season long theater. Get the popcorn ready.

Oh, this is going to be good. Philly is a hard core passionate sports town, both the fans and the media, it's all about love or hate, not a whole lot in between. Enter Torts!!! Ya, could be the best movie of the year (:

Lets play a game.
Does he coach a single game for Philly in the 23-24 season?
I think Torts will have similar success in Philly to what he had in Columbus. Somewhat similar situations. In Columbus he got a team who couldn't hold on to their stars due to the team's location and made them into a lower level playoff team, with some major first round upsets a couple of years (vs Toronto and Tampa). He got the team to play his style of hockey and it worked for a non-star studded lineup. In Philly he's getting players who can play his way and a young goalie who could really do well if the defence improves.
The problem in Philly isn't the coach. Torts will get them to be a bottom level playoff team more often than not. The problem is the GM. This team is stuck in no man's land. They needed a rebuild but instead are doing the overpriced veteran thing (hello Risto). At least in Columbus Torts had a great GM who was just in a bad situation. Torts will do the best he could - won't be good enough but it won't be his fault.
GET WELL SOON, DOBBER.
Assuming he gets the job, I absolutely see him coaching in 23/24. They arent going to hire him to fire him after one season.
Torts is one thing, and that is successful for a certain period of time. He will get results early and for a few years before he loses the room. It's happened his entire NHL career.

Torts is the perfect coach for a group of pretty talented players, not young guys, and guys who haven't felt the winning streaks in a while. He can get you wins quickly if you buy in, but once you get fed up, the wins don't happen and it snowballs.
Solid hire. And def saves the GM his job for 2yrs. Then Torts clock typically starts to tick.

Ugh. This is such a move by the Old-Man Flyers Brass.
Best case... they play a system that squeaks them into the playoffs like CBJ.
If best case is mediocrity - I don't want it.
2023 draft and you are adding a coach that will grind you a finish that is NOT the bottom of the NHL.
Bad. Effin. Move.
All this move does is make gritty (yes, perfect word) old-school Flyer fans happy with the most recent move from management.
Everything PHI has done at the top in the last 5 years is to provide short-term head-nodding to their old-guard half-informed fans.
I'm so done with everybody in PHI management.
So. Done.
Yes exactly!!
The only way this works out positively is if the Bobby Clarke Trophy winner - Cam Atkinson dislikes Torts enough from their time in Columbus together that Torts never gets any buy-in from the players and the wheels fall early in the season and Torts is fired by Christmas time... and the Flyers end up in a lottery pick position.
