    Default Merz v. Gibson

    16 team salary cap dynasty.

Who do we prefer going forward - Gibson @ 6.4 or Merz @ 5.4

I currently have Merz, but the guy with Gibson wants him off me pretty badly. I'd need to have a goalie coming back, and Gibson is his only starter even though I'm not super high on him. I could probably get a sweetener, but I don't think it would be a crazy add.

My gut is saying stick with Merz (especially seeing as I'm pretty much at the cap) but wanted a sanity check on that.

Need to know where Gibson ends up or stays. I’m not too high on Merz either so really tough. If your tight I’d hold but if you can spare a million I’d take that gamble

Elvis. When a guy a first name that good, gotta use it.

Seriously, Gibson has been below average the last 3 years by many measures, I tend to like GSAA. Elvis has been average or better all of his 3 seasons.

Additionally, Gibson was outplayed by Stolarz. I would expect them to want to dump that contract, so while he may end up on a better team, he may not.

I think I would stick with Merzlikins simply for the cap savings. The difference in their numbers doesn't justify the difference in cap. I'd want one hell of a sweetner before taking on the extra cap.

Gibson has officially requested a trade. Where he lands really affects his value, if he somehow lands in say Toronto or Edmonton we could very well see him posting excellent numbers. I believe Gibson is the better goalie but also dont think we’ve seen the best from Elvis yet

To be clear, the report is he's said he is open to being traded. He has not exactly asked for a trade. Which is important because he has a MNTC that is a 10team no trade list. So open to being traded will make moving him a lot easier. But open to a trade is a big difference to requesting a trade.

Until Gibson is traded, Merz is the better keep. However, the Gibson's offers might get lifted if he's moved to Colorado, Edmonton or Toronto.

I think Gibson is the better goalie but if he stays or is dealt to a bad team then Merz is the keep. If Gibson gets dealt to a good team this is a no brainer. Tarasov will be breathing down Merz’s neck soon enough. Anaheim is going in a different direction for Gibson, he’s ready to win now.

I agree with this. Elvis has been pretty average and the Blue Jackets have just locked up Tarasov and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Daniil takes the net in Columbus over the last half of the season. Simply put, I believe Tarasov is by far the better Goalie than Elvis and this should be taken into account. Gibson has been an decent goalie on a bad team for a long time, if the right situation presents itself, owning Gibson might not be a bad thing. I'm not really leaning one way or the other here, this is a tough decision, but there are, as is usually the case, a lot of factors at play, most with unknown outcomes.

Right now I'd go with Merz because the situation with Gibson is iffy. It could end up that both goalies could be equal talent for next season, but Gibson and his whereabouts for next season being up in the air would make me want to stay with Merz.
