Sounds like the Stars are close to moving Bishop's contract to the Sabres in a cap dump move. Kevin Weekes tweeted about it about 30min ago

Deal is done. Bishop + 7th for future considerations. Such a low cost for moving big cap numbers. Even if this helps Buffalo, they should get more out of Dallas to get the deal done.

in this case i actually think this helps buffalo more than it helps dallas. dallas could easily just stash bishop on IR and arrange their contracts to maximize LTIR space. whereas for buffalo getting to the salary floor while paying little actual cash is worthwhile and get a small free asset out of it. thus, buffalo gets less in compensation since its more of a headache rather than a direct cap hit. if you look at buffalo's cap sheet, they could probably take everyone's garbage for a year np lol
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
I feel like Buffalo should have gotten more for their cap space... Even if they had to get to the cap floor, they have all summer to get there. Or am I missing something here? Is cap space not a really valuable asset right now?
Edit: feels like this is a financial decision; as mentioned above his cash due is not much (esp. when insurance is factored in). I guess it's a deal some franchises need to make right now.

Was hoping the Leafs would dump Mrazek in Buffalo lol.
Call me old one more time.

This is a key point as to why the draft pick compensation is low. Bishop is LTIR eligible, and the contract is very likely insured in some way, so the cap benefit to the Stars is only before the season, and the cash outlay for the Sabres is possibly going to be less than Bishop's salary.

Are players contracts on IR typically covered by insurance tho? Cause on Buffalo he'll be IR and not LTIR.

He will be LTIR in Buffalo, they just won't be using it to go over the cap ceiling.

I can't speak exactly in this case, but often player contracts are covered by insurance that is primarily for catastrophic injuries. A guy out for a week is not going to generate an insurance claim. Career ending injuries often will generate a claim. Is there insurance in this case? Maybe.
