This seems stupid without having plan in place, unless the plan is to strip down and rebuild. I get the idea of needing a new voice, but this coaching record doesn't exactly scream "has lost the room":

    Seasons: 5
    Losing seasons: 0
    Non-playoff seasons: 0
    First round exits: 1
    Second round exits: 3
    Conference final exits: 0
    Stanley Cup round exits: 1
    Stanley Cups won: 0

If the deciding line is only how many Stanley Cups you win, you need a better management team.

I’m definitely shocked. I think Cassidy is a great coach and should find success wherever he ends up.

That being said, I wasn’t a fan of the Bruins firing Julien and hiring Cassidy so I’ll give Neely/Sweeney the benefit of doubt on this one. They’ve made some questionable choices in their tenure but overall the Bruins have been quite successful so I won’t complain

Lets see who's out to start the yr with the Bruins:
    - Cassidy Gone
    - McAvoy - Hurt
    - Marchand - Hurt
    - Grzelyck - Hurt
    - Bergeron - UFA/Retire?

Could very well be a firing that happens now because it was going to happen 2 months into the season.

Strange. As if the B's don't have enough issues facing them early on next year they ditch a pretty damn good coach for no apparent reason to make matters worse. I'm wondering if the front office brain trust has either lost their minds or if a major re tool is about to happen in Bean Town? I'm thinking the later is more likely.

If they are seriously thinking about a retool. Do you not seriously entertain the idea of trading Marchand (34yrs old, with 3yrs left), Hall (30yrs old, 3yrs left) and Pastrnak (26yrs old, 1yr left)?

I would assume they want to sign Pastrnak to an extension prior to the draft. Like it'll happen ASAP. But if they don't how can you go into 2022-23 season with those injuries, and a new coach and think holding onto those older assets (not Pasta) is the wise move?

Marchand with his injury complicates things to the point of a trade wouldn't happen till likely the deadline.

And I saw the flipside of this also argued. If Bergeron doesn't retire, then we know why Cassidy was fired. Gotta think they'd do whatever it took to get PB back for another season, and if the coach and captain weren't seeing eye-to-eye, then this firing makes a lot more sense.

We HAVE to missing something here. Some "behind closed doors" kind of thing. Maybe it's a player vs coach thing... or a coach vs gm thing... but there just has to be more to this story than it seems atm.

    Full galaxy brain:
    - they know Bergy is calling it quits
    - too many injuries (already) and not sure Sway is "ready" (enough) to feel like next year is "their" year
    - they see 2023 draft as loaded with higher-end options
    - take your lumps next year, move Marchand/Hall for futures, build around Pasta and a solid 1st in 2023

Yeah I'm stretching this too far I know... but I legit don't understand what happened here.

A report came out that if Sweeney is still the GM, Pasta will no re-sign. He was too 'hurt' the way Krug and Krecji departures were handled by Sweeney. Something about not even trying to keep them around. Maybe there was something between Cassidy and Pasta too and this is also another way to try and help the relationship between their star and the team.

The article I read was that Pastrnak was not happy that they fired Cassidy.

This was according to Boston Bruins reporter Fluto Shinzawa.

Im unsure what to make of all these conflicting reports coming out of Boston. By no means did they have a poor year but they were certainly banged up in the end.

If Bergeron retires, a retool/rebuild year makes sense. I would imagine Marchand will stay anyway but Hall and/or Pasta may choose to go elsewhere

    Adding to the rumour mill.

A buddy who follows the B's closely said the rumour for the reason Krejci retired was because of Cassidy, and that Bergeron was considering doing the same. Maybe if your stars are considering retirement because of the coach, the easiest thing to do is move on from the coach...
