Zegras for 2nd OA (WILL REP)
Hey all,
I'm back, once again fielding offers for Zegras. My league is through the expansion draft which I managed to shed two terrible contracts in, and now I'm getting ready for the draft. I've spent the first part of the off-season upgrading my roster (added Dougie Hamilton, Frederick Anderson, and Cam Fowler) and freeing up cap space for free agency (I have about $20 million to spend) Now the draft is coming. I have 3rd overall, but I was approached by the team who has 2nd OA and is a long time admirer of Zegras: He is offering 2nd OA and Senator's prospect (last years 10th OA) Tyler Boucher for Zegras.
I don't want to lose Zegras, I'm a big fan. BUT after losing a lot of farm depth and future picks in the Hamilton/Anderson deals, adding Wright/Slafkovsky at 2nd and Cooley/Nemec/Jiricik at 3rd, along with putting Boucher in the farm is very tempting. Every time I've floated the idea of moving Zegras I've been told no, and I expect this to be no different but thought I'd ask any way.

I'd keep Zegras. Cooley at #3 is a fantastic prospect for your farm team.

It really depends on what you think of that guy at #2 versus Zegras. I am not a big prospect evaluation guy, but I think people would tell you to do it for #1, but not #2. MY understanding is that Wright is the clear #1.
I would probably hold Zegras, as the goal is to get the farm to develop producers, and he's producing now.

Using 21 years old to upgrade farm is not good idea…trade 30 years olds for that…
you would need to be getting 2 of top 3 picks to even consider this….

Zegras easily. I would not trade Zegras for any pick in this draft. The farm/not-farm distinction is not enough for me to make a deal that hurts me long term.

Just a bad idea IMO. Keep Zegras, I firmaly believe he will be something special.

Zegras hasn’t even scratched the surface yet. He’ll be a 100 point threat in the near future.
