I honestly think Rust has been under appreciated and undervalued for quite some time but that has now changed. It's fair value for a guy who can flirt with PPG production, at least for a few more years. After that, well as Rylant says, a contract that will not age well. I like it for Rust, the Pens, well, that's another story, it could well be buy out time in 4 years (:

Most UFA contracts don't age well, but this is about the going rate for non-star 1st line caliber wingers. And if you're Pittsburgh, you definitely don't give a hoot about the back half of this deal. You've got 3 more years of Crosby and then your team is going into a death spiral.

"You've got 3 more years of Crosby and then your team is going into a death spiral." "Death Spiral's" a figure skating term isn't it? (:

I personally think this is good for pens…if it was 3 year I think he is worth closer to 7 based on production…I know we said it for a while but in 3-4 years pens will be I. Full rebuild and at that point they won’t care to pay rust for producing less…I like this for pens and I think Rust gave them discount..

good contract is if u get 1 point per 100k .. that means he needs to get 312 point over 6 years…personally I think he gets more…

I think this is a reasonable deal. Would the Penguins have preferred 4-5 years? Probably, but this is a guy who has put in a lot of time and effort, and this is his only big contract. The deal should be perfectly fine for the next 3 years, and maybe a slight bargain if he keeps doing what he's done over the last couple years. They need the cost savings now, not later.
