i dont think you count out anybody..as Axe said with goalies you never know. Dostal, Annunen and Tarasov are probably closest to the show. I would not be surprised if Dostal is in 1A/1B situation as soon as next year. Same with Tarasov and possibly Annunen too if Kuemper walks.

Hey all. I fully understand the goalies are voodoo aspect and I’m not gonna hold anyone accountable for thier selection.

Also the closeness to actual NHL duty is why I put Daostal Annunen and Tarasov into the equation. I fully expect that Azaraov and Walstedt to be the top two options. But is the earlier NHL taste make up for the longer Minor league seasoning at the end of the day?

I ask the question based on drafting this season for goalies as my team matures.

Wallstedt has the least amount of competition coupled with the best organization. We of course will not know for 2-4 years, but Wallstedt at this moment is the best bet.

Quick pick I’d go with Wallstedt then Askarov.

I take Wallstedt here, who just signed an ELC, but I wouldn't sleep on Dostal. He's looked good and there are whispers that Gibson may be traded out of ANA and Dostal could end up being the goalie of the future there sooner than one thinks on a good young team. However Axe is right... complete toss-up with G prospects. I usually try to collect as many as possible and hope to get a few hits over the years.

    Cossa (DET) for me.
Then Wallstedt (MIN) and Askarov (NAS).

    These are mostly team-based decisions.
For pure skill, most would say Askarov/Wallstedt/Cossa.
And Askarov is much farther along in development.

DET, though, for me - is, by far, the team that will be BEST when Cossa is ready for full time #1: 2024-on. Seider/Edvinsson already an incredible lock top4D-men in NHL. DET will be very solid.
MIN, beyond Kaprizov - I'm still not *wow*-ed by the roster. Their top D when Wallstedt are ready will be a mid-30ish Spurgeon and an early-30ish Brodin. Meh. Addison should be OK offensively, but I don't love his D to this point.
NAS, we have loved their D for YEARS... but Josi is 32, McDonagh 33, Ekholm 32 and Saros is an elite goalie signed through 2025.

If I'm wanting the best stats in a Win-centric (most) league... it's easily Cossa for me.

[To this point - looks at the last few high-prized goalies... Vasilevskiy on TB, GREAT GOALIE + GREAT TEAM... Shesterkin on NYR, GREAT GOALIE + EMERGINGLY GREAT TEAM. You want to try to have both, not just one, in fantasy hockey.]

This is such a great post. If you can be patient and look at who will be the best FANTASY OWN in three years, it's probably Cossa.

In terms of individual skill, I think that Askarov is the best athlete and can have the highest PERSONAL ceiling, once he gets working with an NHL-level goalie coach on a regular basis.

I would take Tarasov for the near term option and Cossa for the long term. While I like some of the others I feel like there are more variables involved in deciding how well they do. Tarasov and Cossa seem like the safest choices as far as the possibility of success and how long it will take to realize that possibility.

FWIW, Wheeler (the athletic) released his top 10 prospect goalies list not to long back (based on talent). Wallstedt is first. Then Askarov, Cossa and Wolf. Annunen was an honourable mention and Tarasov didn't even make it to that list.
