Default How do you rank the playoff teams as of today?

My playoff draft is starting late due to conflicting schedules. So how far do you think each team will make it in the playoffs? I am confident in the top tier but after that I feel like it's such a crap shoot.

    St Louis
    Tampa

    Toronto
    Florida
    Washington

I think Minnesota will beat St Louis. They are both very good teams but Minny’s goaltending is way better.

Florida should be in the top tier.

I'd still go Colorado at the top. Carolina's played great but they matchup really well with Boston. They may have a tougher time in the subsequent rounds. I also think the Wild will beat the Blues in a long series. I'd go:

    Colorado
    Carolina

    Calgary

    Edmonton
    Minnesota
    St-Louis
    Tampa Bay
    Toronto
    Florida

    Washington
    Pittsburgh
    New York

    LA
    Dallas
    Boston
    Nashville

I am shocked you have Toronto so high. I feel that series could go either way. I am trying to stay away from it.

Surprised Florida is getting relatively little love.

    Carolina
    Colorado
--> by far best chances to win their divisions

    Florida
    Calgary
    --> favorites to win division

    Oilers
    Minnesota
    Tampa
    Rangers
--> my picks to win their rounds

    Pittsburgh
    Toronto
    LA
    Washington
    St. Louis
    --> still tossups.

    Dallas
    Boston
    Nashville
    --> in very tough

Because he’s a fan boy. There are plenty of folks on here who will give fantasy advice based on personal bias. And in this case (ie people rating Florida low) based on one or two games of playoff hockey so far.

nothing to do with that...and i would appreciate if you stick to your comments and not mine....

Florida is ranked low cause they build for regular season and not playoffs..if Bob does not stand on his head they have no chance...

I believe this actually too. I am getting some serious San Jose vibes but I am willing to be proven wrong.

Here is how I would rank them.

    1. Colorado - - Sure the second round might be tough... but I think they can get through it and make it to finals.
    2. Carolina - The system this team plays is legit.
    3. Tampa and 4. Toronto - I see whichever team wins this series as going to the conference finals. I give a slight edge to Tampa, but its really close.
    5. Edmonton - I think they will get rolling and get through Calgary in 2nd round.
    6. Florida - Of the teams that lose in the 2nd round this will be the best of them. The 2nd round series between Florida and Tampa/Toronto will be close!
    7. Calgary - Would be higher if they didn't have to play Edmonton in 2nd round.
    8. St. Louis - They will sneak by Minnesota, but won't get by Colorado.
    9. New York Rangers - I think they pull out a series win over Pitts.
    10. Minnesota - The series against St. Louis will likely go 7 games.
    11. Pittsburgh - will make the series with the Rangers a long one.
    12. Washington - They have shown they can play with Florida and will out last the teams below them in the length of first round series.
    13. Dallas Stars - They will play a hard 7 game series against Calgary.
    14. Los Angeles - Oilers are rolling now - LA is done in 5.
    15. Boston - Carolina, as mentioned above has such a great structure, I think Boston is done and time to start retooling.
    16. Nashville - no Saros and playing against Colorado.

I believe there's two ways to look at this. Either you rank them based on how the series has gone so far (which would propel teams like Carolina up and Florida down) or you take the ensemble view and rank them mostly on how you saw things before the playoffs started as it's only 2 games (or 1) in.

As series are so short and games won so valuable, I have a tendency to weigh a little more where series have gone thus far but it's not like it'd be surprising to see Florida sweep the next 4 games against Washington.

Can you expand on the theory that they build for the regular season and not the playoffs? How does that work?
