Default Roe v Wade to be overturned?

This, is going to be an utter shit show if it happens. Is it sad that I am not as surprised as I think I should be that this is happening?

The USA is a failed state and we're just watching it crumble in slow motion.

Watching the USA right now, I feel so sad. They're truly going backwards. I'm pretty sure most Americans still support Roe v. Wade, but with this Supreme Court, it shouldn't be that surprising.

    Land of the free, really?

I read an article that said you should be angry, upset, disheartened but you should definitely not be surprised. Trump said at the beginning of the presidency if he could get enough Republican judges on the Supreme Court then Roe v. Wade would probably be overturned.

And it's not like the Southern states (at least most of them) haven't already made it next to impossible to have an abortion within their state lines. They couldn't make abortion actually illegal but they could turn the process of getting it truly abhorrent.

Not sure exactly what you are suggesting, but I assume you are good with R v W being overturned?

Elections have consequences. Obama had the option while controlling the House and Senate to codify Roe vs Wade but didnt.

Just when you think progress is made, they take major steps backwards. Just to clarify it was a leaked draft and there’s no guarantee this will happen but just the thought…

I find it amusing that this is leaked just when the state primaries start. As for my feelings on the consequences, I am torn. It is not the 70’s, but some of these states are treating it like the dark ages.

It's not amusing at all, honestly. It got leaked due for political reasons.

What the US ( and honestly every state as well) needs is a constitutional convention. Plan it a couple years out, and mandate attendance. Start work on taking a large chunk of the laws that are addressign things not voered in the Constitution for various reasons, notable lack of clarity, a change in the way people feel, or simply progress and hash things out.

The fact that it was leaked is insignificant when considering that it is possibly happening in the first place.

It's also been said that the abortion rates are surprisingly close in the "illegal" states vs the "legal" states when taking into account people crossing state lines to get their abortion. If people want it, they'll find the way.

America is going backwards because the old white men who have been in power have become uncomfortable with everyone getting rights. Rich people will find the way to get it done, this is yet another attack on the poor, marginalized sector. I don't have numbers, but this feels like it's effecting the same group as some of the voting laws they implemented recently.....

I've never understood making it illegal. I don't get it.

This is not just about the old white men. There are plenty of evangelical christian women who feel that aborting a fetus is killing a person. And they vote.....

Now after the child is conceived, they could give two craps about what happens to it....

9 supreme court members, 6 males and 3 females. Pretty sure this was voted 7-2 to make it illegal. I wonder who the 7 were. Then the next thing is how many of the evangelical christian women are just submissive to a male figure in their life (father/husband what have you) and that's why they've pushed this. I went to public school, but my gf and her friends went to Catholic school and they told stories about how the school system essentially brain washed them into thinking abortion was bad. They went to specifically female students and pressured them with one-sided graphic info to join the 'pro-life' club. It was super predatory tactics and specifically went after female students. The Catholic school system difference is a high driver of this stuff in Canada and it's pretty messed up that there is a Catholic school system that's funded by the gov't. Religion has no place in politics and school. It's a private thing and religious schools should be a private system (pretty sure there's jewish school systems that are private). Now I'm ranting and spinning out of control.

They only care about it between 0-10months of pregnancy, and 18+yrs old when they start working so they can take their money off taxes, and can vote.
