He's a lot of fun to watch on a regular basis. It's amazing that he might get 65 goals and still might lose the Hart to Josi or Huberdeau et al. Some really big performances this year around the league.
This guy is ****ing unreal.
Best goal scorer in the game today. Hart Trophy winner. Soon to be Greatest Leaf of All Time (if not already).

LOL he ain't gonna lose the Hart... they've already engraved his name on the trophy.
Not a snarky question, but would Toronto sportswriters/fans ever acquiesce to a non-Canadian like Matthews to be considered the greatest Leaf of all time? From the time Marner has gotten there, for example I've consistently heard from the (admittedly garbage person) Steve Simmons of the world the line of "well actually, Mitch Marner makes the team go, not Matthews" which I conclude is said because Marner is a good ol' Ontario boy in the Don Cherry sense of the phrase.
You act like he's got twice as many goals as the rest of the league. He has 58 goals and the next guy has 50. He only has 16% more goals than Draisaitl and he's currently 4th in points, so it's not exactly a runaway.
Josi is a defenseman and only has 12 points less than Matthews in roughly the same amount of games (on a notoriously low-scoring team). Lots of players are having incredible seasons, try to open your eyes and see outside of your Leafs fishbowl.
Your data points are not compelling at all... Josi - are you ****ing kidding me? That's almost as laughable as the guy who said Hubie should win it because of his "LW assists".
The only stat that matters - 51 goals in 50 games.
Who was the last player to do that? It was Lemieux in 95-96 (back when scoring was WAY higher)
Who was the last player to score at Matthews current pace? Ovie in 2007 - and guess what, he swept the Hart with 98% of first place votes
Sure other players are having impressive seasons. But AM is making history.
God damn, it's taken a few years on here, but finally found somebody whose posts reminds me of the garbage from HF boards. History is definitely being made

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize "Hart" stood for "51 goals in 50 games". I thought it was awarded to the player most valuable to their team...
In 2007 Ovechkin also led the league in points, was 3rd in +/- and had nearly 100 more shots than everyone else, among other things. But if you want to pretend it's ALL about the # of goals, you go ahead. It's not like there's another trophy for that already or anything.
