Malkin's Next Contract

I own Malkin and was hoping his salary would decrease substantially with his next contract (sub $7M).

Anyone want to take a crack at what you think his next contract will be?

I won't be able to keep Malkin, Dubois, and Couturier so need to start thinking about what to do based on value.

sell high on his solid production since the return. He ma be 35 but he is still going to get paid out of loyalty and for the resume because when he plays he is still a ppg player so you can expect around the same per year cap hit. I would say his next deal is 3 years.

I think it's going to be a big number. Maybe close to what Crosby is making, maybe closer to Ovie. Probably less AAV if he gets more term, higher AAV if they (pens or other team) get him on a shorter deal. I think he could get close to 10m on the open market easy, maybe he takes less by choice for whatever reason though.

I think a lot of Ovie owners were hoping for the same thing but that didn't really happen. I don't think Gino is taking a pay cut unless it's a 4 or 5 year contract and even then it won't be cheap and still likely 8 Mil or more. I agree with pmorrow here, in the same ball park as Sids current contract and I'm sure the Malkin camp would consider that a home town discount. He could very well fetch 10 on a 2 or 3 year contract with another franchise.

I also don't think he's going to be taking a lot less money to stay in Pittsburgh. Expect another decently expensive contract.

I definitely don't think he'll be near (or below) 7 per year. Closer to 9 or a little above for 2-3 years is my guess.

He already had a pay cut by signing long term years ago….if he had to sign let’s say 2 years ago, he would be around 11M per….

What about his fellow Pen Letang? What's his new contract going to look like? Sign a longer term at lower AAV?

As a Pens fan, I have mixed feelings. After last year's playoff loss, I was on board to take a couple years and re-build the roster.

Malkin at $8+ for 3 years is hard to swallow, given other uses of that money in years where deep playoff runs will be harder to come by.

Letang could probably sign at $7-8+ for 3-5 years - again, difficult to swallow. You could argue that Letang is more Jeff Petry (6.25M) than Drew Doughty ($11M) but it'd be a hard argument to make. I could see Letang signing elsewhere before I see Malkin leave.
