Lehky is an analytical darling. Fantastic add by Sakic for a cup contending team. And he’s an RFA too which is why the cost was high. Hurting Barron hurts but he’s a prospect who at best will be a very good top 4 D, teams over value prospects all the time.

    11pts in 14playoff games
9pts in 16regular season games with the Avs

20pts/30gp = 55pts/82games. And he's an RFA. It worked out.

How good of a prospect is Barron because the 2nd is going to be pick 60 or so? I was thinking about this trade recently and how it was a brilliant move by Sakic. Great depth move for this playoff run and still an RFA that can be resigned to help retool when Colorado loses a couple UFAs this offseason. And it's not like Colorado is lacking for dman depth.

Barron was a former late 1st round pick (2020) in a year where scouting was iffy so guys could have gone really early or really late due to lack of scouting/games played by prospects. And in the AHL this past season got 20pts in 43games, had 31pts in 33games in the QMJHL last yr. He sounds like a late 1st round defenseman pick really, maybe even a mid-1st. He has size (6'2") and weight (195lbs) for a 20yr old.

In 2019, Barron was ranked 10th in Bob McKenzie's pre-season draft rankings, Drysdale was 8th. Just for a comparison of where he was before he had a meh draft yr season, and Drysdale had a good draft yr season. Obvi I'm not saying he's Drysdale (who went 6th that yr), but guys have bad draft yrs and take a bit to come back especially after a weird draft yr like he had. Look at Liljegren with the Leafs. He was a top 10 guy at the beginning of his draft yr then dropped to the 20s cause he had Mono and took like 2yrs to get back to form. Now he's a top 4D.

He was super popular locally when he played for the Mooseheads and was named Captain his last year here. Definitely has potential to be a very good NHL defence man. I don’t know if it will translate to much fantasy success but he should be a mainstay on the second pairing in Montreal for years to come

in the likely event nicushkin and probably burakovsky are too expensive to keep, lehkonen gonna get some good top 6 minutes next season.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.

I still think the Habs did very well in this trade. Of course, we won't know until it all comes out in the wash with a draft pick and a prospect Dman, but finding potential top 4, right handed Dmen are not an easy thing to find. I do agree with Gabe that Barron might not turn into a fantasy darling but I am pretty sure the Habs don't care about fantasy hockey and only care about finding quality players, which I believe Barron will turn into.

I agree, I still think the Habs made out great in the deal. Very rarely do deadline acquisitions perform well, let alone improve after a trade. Just worked out well in this instance.
