    Default [Rumor] Jesperi Kotkaniemi re-signs

There were rumors that he was already locked up to this type of deal when he signed his offer sheet. Here it is.

    https://twitter.com/andystrickland/s...G7d1TPqIQ&s=19

Jesperi Kotkaniemi sounds like 8 years $4.25-$4.5 in Carolina
I went back to the thread when he signed his offer sheet and I shared this back then:

Interesting listening to Freidman on 31 Thoughts today about this.

He said a few interesting tidbits. First, he said Carolina really likes the player and tried trading for him. He also said it wouldn't surprise him if Carolina gave Montreal a heads up that this was coming and also he figures they're already discussing the next deal with Kotkaniemi. Maybe more term, less cap hit.
Once again, Friedman was on it.

If the real breakout ever comes this is incredible. Even if it doesn't this is great value. And he's only 22.

With that kind of term KK could be missing out on a lot of $$$...
    Value in job security though.

That's the gamble when these guys sign these long term contracts. They are guaranteed a certain dollar amount but could be missing out on more. Then again, he could be the next Galcheyuk too, hopping from team to team, struggling to stick and taking next to minimum contracts to chase the dream.

Shouldn't this be listed as a rumour threat? There is no deal yet. That seems like a really long term for KK. But Carolina is in a tough spot - they'd need to qualify him at $s that don't make any sense.

Fair enough. I moved it and renamed it. I'm sure I'll move it back on the 21st of March when it becomes official.

Of note as Jesperi Kotkaniemi and the #hurricanes close in on an extension: Hearing it will be an eight-year deal, which means it can't be completed until the March 21 trade deadline.

Believe the AAV will be just south of $5 M AAV per season...

    Rumoured AAV is $4.82m

i dont believe they had a handshake deal but im sure they discussed parameters back during the offer sheet. i also believe the season has basically gone exactly how they envisioned as KK can do his own thing on a depth line and move up the lineup when needed. carolina has some tough decisions ahead with trocheck, nino and cole as UFAs while deangelo and necas need new deals also. locking in a future 2C at hopefully a long-term discount makes sense.

Kotkaniemi is only 22 and might be ready to show his full potential. It looks like he will be centering Necas and Svechnikov on the 2nd line. Is the year he fully breaks out? 40 point season or better?

Whats your read on this guy?

I’d be surprised if that sticks. He seems like an ideal NHL 3C. I’d expect changes when Staal and Stasny are healthy.
