Was this offer "Terrible"?

Made an offer to a guy on the outside of the playoff race. We are a keep 4 and must keep at least 1 goalie or defenseman.

The offer was My Hellebuyck/Chabot/Zuccarello for the Isles tandem/McAvoy. His other goalies are Kuemper and Hart.

He said the offer was terrible and countered with some ridiculous offer for McDavid. I'm starting to question myself, maybe I am way off base here.

How far outside the playoff race is he and who are his other keepers?

You are certainly offering good players but I would guess he's looking at it like: Sorokin>>Helly, McAvoy>>Chabot and Zucc or Varly = meh

If so I'd be inclined to agree with him.

I don’t see it as a insulting or horrible offer, even if it didn’t work for him I see it fair enough that he could come up with a counter offer. I have yet to see a site rank sorokin above helle.if I was a team out of it I would be buying low on helle

Agreed. I wouldn't accept it if I was the other team but it is not terrible.

That was my thinking as well. I was expecting a counter offer, what I got was that offer is terrible and this... McAvoy/Oshie/Hart for McDavid. His keepers are Crosby, MacKinnon and Pasta, I thought Helle was a keeper upgrade. Especially considering Varly still plays a good share of the games as of right now.

That leaves Chabot & Zuccarello for McAvoy & Varlamov. That's mroe or less a wash.

What I'd do is simply respond to every offer he sends via the site with:
1. An immediate accept if you love it, or
2. Absolutely no reply at all, or
3. An insulting counteroffer if you feel like it.

An offer that come via a method other than the site get no reply.
There are people who it's simply better to not deal with, and he seems like one of them.

For some reason when I replied earlier I thought Varly was UFA this summer giving Sorokin little competition but just realized I was wrong.

Seeing the keepers makes me think you sent a very solid offer. Certainly far from deserving the reaction he had towards it.

Ya, I wouldnt consider this offer insulting or "terrible" but different people value different players at varying levels. I'd consider it a fair offer with both sides getting quality players but thats just my assessment of the offer.

I did not reply to his counter offer, I rarely do. He is brutal to deal with....but he had me questioning myself. This league is very tight when it comes to trades in general. But at the deadline he will trade his entire team for draft picks....I haven't seen this work yet. He will bombard me with ridiculous offers for picks when the deadline nears. Picks are great but in a redraft the cream of the crop are pretty much gone.

So, you've confirmed for me that he's tough to deal with, and every year when he realizes he's out of he blows his team up for picks. So talk to him when you're contending before the deadline and are willing move picks.

Clearly, your handle on this has been proven correct - it's not you, it's him.

Definitely not terrible or insulting. Not at all there is nothing wrong with the offer. He can say no thanks and move on.

Looks like a decent starter offer to me. If he countered with a dumb offer for McDavid, he's probably one of those managers who just won't do a trade unless its clearly in his favor for all to see.

If he is outside the playoff race then this is not terrible at all.
He needs to focus on upgrading his team for next year so that means improving: Pasta, D/G, picks.

From a keeper perspective your offer boils down to Helly v. Sorokin, I believe Helley is an upgrade given long-term proven play and the number of games played. Thus the deal is a keeper win.
Perhaps he does not see it that way and prefers Sorokin, if so fine.
the rest of the deal improves you slightly for the year but again is not offside.

Maybe the guy does not see he is out of it. Maybe he does not look at it from a keeper perspective. He does not want to do the deal so move on but know it was a reasonable offer.
