    Default Makar vs Q.Hughes

How far a drop between the 2? Points, sog, pim, special teams points.

Pretty big drop. Q. Hughes is an elite offensive dman. Great player to have in a keeper league. But Makar is a generational talent. It's easy to take him for granted, but what Makar has done so far this year is a rare feat. He's on pace for 40 goals, and while he won't likely maintain that pace, his career goals per game played so far is top 5 all-time and trending up. He also gets more sog and plays on a much stronger powerplay in Colorado. Only really advantage to Hughes is PIM, which isn't saying much.

With Makar all you need to do is watch how quickly he walks the line. There isn't a single defenseman in the league who has that type of footwork.

It is wholly subjective, but I think it is clear to say that there is a drop, and it is substantial. Makar is in the conversation, or the leader in the clubhouse, for the title of best fantasy hockey defenseman. Hughes just isn't.

I inquired about Makar. Was told by OGM that Makar is the McDavid of defence men. He’s probably right.

Bingo....Makar is McDavid when it comes to d-men. Think of Hughes like a Rantanen - great by most measures, but not the tip of the iceberg.

Funny you say that, it was a potential deal being made. My McJesus but he doesn’t want to move Makar in a return package.

I kind of agree with the "McDavid of D" comparison, but if the OGM is refusing to even consider including Makar in a deal to acquire McDavid, that's a little extreme. Is there something about your league - cap, positional priorities, keeper rules, etc - that makes this make sense?

Hughes is a one-dimensional points-only guy. Makar is better at that dimension, and plays on a better team, and shoots more.

    Makar > Hughes

However the only negative I've seen with Makar is health. He's played 32/36 Avs games this yr (73game/82avg), 44/56 last yr (64/82games). So maybe there's a league with settings that suggest Hughes might be closer, but you'd be crazy to think it's not Makar in every league.

But there's going to be a yr that Makar plays 82 games and he beats Karlsson's offensive numbers in his prime. It's gonna happen in the next couple of yrs and maybe even this yr. But he is also shooting at 16.8% right now avg almost 3SOG a game. That's gotta lower this yr right? lol.
