From about half an hour ago, sources have told me John Klingberg has asked for a trade.

He's a bargain this year but will he a UFA at seasons end, 30 years old, and looking for a long term, big money contract.

Tweet is a bit oddly written based on the article - but if I'm reading it right it suggests the trade request was made early in the year once contract extension talks broke down... as opposed to JK asking "now" to be dealt.

That makes more sense to me, unless there was something 'personal' happening.

Unless DAL fully collapses, I don't think they'll move him this year. Can totally see him finishing the year with DAL and then walking into FA.

I agree. I think if Dallas gets a solid offer, they seriously consider moving him. He's looking for big money and term (considering all the money D are getting, this shouldn't come as a surprise) and I don't think Dallas is willing to give both but who knows how this plays out.

Klingberg will be a very nice rental for some contender.

I'd be quite surprised if his next contract is in the $9mill range like so many other D have landed simply due to the way his scoring has trended over the past few seasons. Regardless, he will still get paid quite handsomely this summer.

Carolina had interest at one time.

There are definitely a few teams that could use him. I don't think he is moved before the trade deadline however unless Dallas hits a real losing skid.

Listening to them talk on Sirius today, they were saying Klingberg would prefer to stay in Dallas on a long-term deal but that if one can't be worked out, that he would like to be traded somewhere he can explore that option.

As an owner, I would love to see him as a true #1 on a team where he doesn't have someone like Heiskanen cannibalizing his offensive opportunities.

I think it boils down to term and the Stars don't want to give him an 8yr deal and thats what he's rumored to be asking for. Something in the 8x8 area is the ask. I can see Dallas being comfortable going 6 max but I am just assuming at this point.
