Basically what Bob McKenzie said last night was as long as there's 8 healthy teams to offer a playoff round, the tourney will continue. The sad part is, some very good teams could slide down the rankings which could make for some very interesting playoff matchups. For example, if the USA has to forfiet another game, they could end up in 3rd or 4th in their division and could end up playing Canada in the quarterfinals (assuming Canada finishes the tourney in 1st in their division).

On the + side of things.. it does create a window of opportunity for the IIHF to move the A-Division tournament to the SAME year as the WJC.
So the qualifying team gets to play in the WJC the same year. Feel for all those 19yr olds that play and win the A tourny just to age out before they get to play in the WJC.
It's the dumbest thing the IIHF does.

I feel bad for the kids, but seems like poor planning to not run this event in a true bubble type setup if you wanted it to go on. Might not have been possible either way anyways.

As soon as the US forfeited it was over. The huge bummer is that it’s all for nothing. These kids are getting screwed over so people can pretend they are trying to keep a cow in the barn when the entire herd is out and running around the pasture already.
