    Default Big Mac trade

15 Team Roto League (keep 5)
    G/A/P/+-/PIM/PPP/SHP/SOG
    W/L/GAA/SV%/SHO/GS

    Keep 5, only one goalie

    Keepers right now:
    Mackinnon
    Guentzel
    Herman
    Huberdeau
    Elvis Merz

I am not competing this year and we are in year 4 of a 5 year keeper

I already moved Kuemper for a first round pick

Another team offered me Zegras Raymond JGibson 1,2,3 picks for Mackinnon and late picks

If I did this I would flip the guys I’m not keeping for other picks.

Do you think that is enough for a Mack return? Again I’m out this year and after next year it resets.

That's an aggressive offer. But not enough for MacKinnon, especially in your format. The goal in a keep 5 (or any limited keeper) is usually to get the best group of keepers possible. The three players offered are good, but best case they become as valuable as MacKinnon sometime in the future, and most likely, they never get there. So I wouldn't to it. Names like McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews are usually untouchable in your format.
    12 Teams, 23 Players (max 3 goalies), H2H, Keep 15 (max 2 goalies)
    2C, 2RW, 2LW, 2F, 1U, 4D, 2G, 8 Bench, 2 IR+
    G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, HIT, BLK, W, SV, SV%, SHO

    Keepers:
C - Matthews, Eichel, Hughes (LW), Pettersson
LW - Kaprizov, Svechnikov (RW), Guentzel, Fiala, Keller (RW)
RW - Marner, Meier (LW), Laine(C/LW), Jarvis (C)
D - Dahlin, Sergachev, Theodore, Klingberg, Werenski, Peeke, Cernak
    G - Shesterkin, Sorokin, Merzlikins
    IR - Pacioretty, Ristolainen

    2023 Draft Picks: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

    Keepers reset after next season?.

Who would be your 5th keeper with Big Mac gone?

You have to look at the difference between MacKinnon and your 5th keeper (Zegras or Raymond or Granlund) and the difference between the upgrade in picks.

Will the upgrade in picks be worth the loss of MacKinnon?
It appears it would to me, and I would make this deal... but you know your league best.

    Who is Herman?

It looks to me that your keepers aren't going to be good enough next year either. So this deal allows you tank this year for picks next year, and then either hope to contend with lesser keepers or tank again next for year more picks to amass picks in a reset year?

    15 TEAM KEEP 5. 15 X 5 = 75

    1st round between ~ 62 and 58 pts. So average 60 pts
    2nd round between ~ 58 and 56 pts. Average 57 pts
    3rd round between ~ 56 and 54 pts. Average 55 pts
    Total 172

Say MacKinnon is 100 points (adjust as you see fit), and 5th keeper is 70 pts. Have to make up 30 points.

A little rough math here since I don't have how many rounds (player slots) there are. Say 11 rounds
    11 x 15 = 165 = ~46,47,48 pts forward. Average 47.
    172-(47*3) = 31

The pick upgrade alone nets you roughly equal to MacKinnon.
You will also have Zegras, Raymond, JGibson (or just 2 of them if one becomes your 5th keeper) to flip for pick upgrades as well.
This deal is a lateral move unless your able to utilize trading
Zegras, Raymond, JGibson (or some combination) for pick upgrades.

The question I have is if you can get pick upgrades going into the redraft?
If yes, I much prefer that then pick upgrades for next season. I rather try to upgrade my top 5 picks to get the best 5 keepers possible out of the redraft. If there's no pick movement for the redraft, that current trade becomes more appealing. Picks will become more valuably next year though so you can't expect the same haul of picks for a player.

I don't understand this, at all.

Your keepers look good aside from Merzlikins. 3 of your current keepers are amongst the top producing players right now and it would be 4 if Big Mac wasn't sidelined.

The reason why you aren't competing this year is because you most likely had a lackluster draft or your team is absolutely riddled with injuries. Let's say both are true, how on earth does it make sense to give up a top 5 player for a couple young guns and upgrading your picks and/or flipping said young guns for more picks?

I'm mean I don't want to sound harsh, but do you really think you'll improve your draft next year simply by acquiring more picks? How big is your roster? You need to be focusing on quality over quantity.

To me, this makes more sense to do next yr. As the picks you'll be getting won't mean anything in 2023-24. IF you could move into a way of getting Wright as a keeper then ok, whatever you do you to get the guy you want. But even if you get Wright next yr...That's it, you are in a 1yr league.

Honestly, I'm trading all my picks this yr for going for it this yr. Tanking next yr to get a top pick in 2023-24 season. Draft Berdard/Wright. Bing bang boom.

doesnt make sense to do it this season as likely you probably wont be able to compete with your keepers going into next season before the reset, so you're doing nothing for the next 2 years just waiting for the reset. seems to make more sense in acquiring picks for the following year before the reset, that way you are set up nicely for the next 5 years of keepers and you'll be more competitive next season too

I think this right here, it's a full redraft in the 2023-2024 season right? Can you trade for picks in that year?

You're better off holding on to MacKinnon riding it out this year and then if you're down again next year, you trade him then. A 1, 2, 3 in a full redraft is way bigger than picks next year for you. That's maximizing your return on a top 3 player.

In my opinion you keep MacKinnon. Obtaining the best 5 (in this case) suitable to your league settings is the key in a limited keeper.
As an example: I feel I have a good set of keepers in our keep 6. I’d love to have MacKinnon in a limited keeper.
However I had a brutal draft ( too many one dimensional players). I liked the name value of my team. However I was getting run over weekly. Partly because of my drafting, plus injuries and slow starting top players. My better players have started to perform. I have made a few good waiver pick ups. Made a couple minor player trades to address certain peripheral categories. I’m back to .500. I still have time to see how my team performs before determining if I’m good enough to compete or need to sell non-keepers for draft picks.
    Bottom line : keep MacKinnon
Hang in, it’s too early to give up on the season . Good luck.

Well so much for my advice, I missed the point about being a full redraft in 2022-23.
