He's a proven good coach. They can use a guy who is proven to be good at a job in the organization above a position of player.

They look for a new GM and coach for several weeks leaving the players and fans twisting in the wind. Then ownership hires a new coach for two years before naming a permanent GM.

Curious what his turnaround numbers are -- seems like whenever he gets a new gig, the team starts scoring in bunches. Hopeful that will happen here. Even if the wins don't come regularly, it would be great to see some shootouts for this squad and some hope that there's something going right.

Love this hire. It's too little too late for this season but maybe he can get our stars confidence back, so that they have a better chance at a good full season next year.

Good question and one I wondered about too. I am assuming ownership made the hire if they fired both the GM and coach on the same day. It makes you wonder how this will work where it wasn't a GM hire. Most GMs like to bring in "their guy" to coach and that won't be the case here. The coach before the GM is certainly different. Makes you wonder how much rope Boudreau will have with the new GM seeing as it was an ownership hire instead of a GM hire. Boudreau is only there on a short term deal so it might not matter, but if he's successful, I can see them retaining him past this year and next.

As I say, will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I agree, Axe. The new GM will have to be okay with BB as his coach for the next two years. And to whom is the coach accountable? The GM or the owners? Aside from a potential bump due to the Boudreau effect, I don’t see this mess getting sorted any time soon. As a Miller and Garland owner, though, I’m happy with the change.
